Well, OK, here is my annual pitch to remind true basketball fans (especially the ones who wrongly think basketball has been ruined by the AAU and McDonalds and NIL) that excellent basketball will once again be on display on June 11 at Southport Fieldhouse.

Duh, it's the 82-year-old Indiana/Kentucky All-Star Game.

82 years??? Are you kidding me?? That's about 13 times how long most of the Water Cooler's regulars were able to stay married their first time (and for some of them the second and third times, too).

Also, 82 years is about 5 times the duration of several European
governments since WWI.

There must be a reason an event has lasted this long. In all the games I attended in the past, the kids that play in this game have played their asses off in this game. You will definitely see defense and sound coaching. They will hit their foul shots. They will get pissed if they commit turnovers.

No Kentucky players will show the cowardice of Calipari to even show up at a game in Indiana. Both sides try to win the entire game. If you love fundamental basketball, you won't be disappointed.

It's interesting how many of our kids are going to a Kentucky school to play. EKU, Ballermine and Murray State all represented vs just 4 in state schools.

And our Indiana All Stars have a 102-44 (some years they only played 1 game) record against the Kentucky boys and I think have swept the series 7 or 8 times in the last 10 years. The series has been so one-sided lately that the KHSAA was debating on wether to cancel the series or not back in 2016, lol

I've looked this up in the past, so let's see what results you get.

Find the census results for Indiana and Kentucky in, say, 1960.

Then, find the latest available census reports (assumed to be for 2020)

Do the math, and then tell us how much it appears Indiana's population has outdistanced Kentucky's population since 1960. Kentucky has simply not kept up.

The whole basketball world gets bent out of shape when it sees the word "Kentucky," but the U. of Kentucky does not really get all of its players from the State/Commonwealth of Kentucky.

I don't think Kentucky's pool of high school basketball talent has increased as much as Indiana's since 1960. What results did you get?

Nonetheless, despite Kentucky's population trends, these games are still competitive. They are worth your attendance in June (for crying out loud), unless you want instead to attend summer civic/arts & crafts festivals that weekend to keep your demanding girlfriend happy.

Uh oh, I think someone's a little butt hurt about how the Indiana All Stars have been dominiating the series and needs to find any excuse they can. I think it's pretty obvious that the level of homegrown talent in Indiana FAR outpaces that in Kentucky (again, look at the All Star series record).

And what does UK not getting all the players from Kentucky have to do with anything? Would that somehow automatrically make Kentucky a lock to win the National Championship every year if they did? Last time I checked, not every top recruit in Indiana goes to IU, either.

Kentucky has noone to blame but itself for it's inability to grow it's population. Maybe if it wasn't consistantly in the bottom 10 states in the country when it comes to education, it would be easier to draw higher paying industries. That would make the state more attractive to younger (college AND non-college) educated people willing to settle down there. That, in turn, would draw MORE high paying jobs and people to the state, therefore increasing the population and making Kentucky more able to compete with other states.

I guess going to a craft beer festival where a bunch of different breweries from around Indiana would be considered "artsy". She's not demanding, and I can take comfort in knowing that she had 0 inbreeding in her family history, since no members of her family have ever lived in the South/Southeast part of the country.

I wonder what the Kentucky boys frontline thought when George McGinnis and Steve Downing came walking into the gym that night lol. I believe one of their players called big George out and he took exception. I have went to a few of these over the years and my favorites were the EJ, Purdue 4 year and the Zach Randolph/Jared Jeffries team. These have been fun.

George had a sub par first game and KY's Mr Bball said he was overrated. He responded in the 2nd game with 50+pts and 30 rebs. Doubt he was accused of being overrated after that.
