Katz Just Said IU is

Kinda doubting its cast in stone yet.

Beat Illinois and its a done deal. Probably even would elevate us to 10/11 seed territory.

Lose a competitive game to Illinois, no abnormal bid stealing or deep runs by other bubble teams, and I think IU gets in. Possibly as one of the Dayton game teams.

Get blown out by Illinois...I think if that happens we could still get in, but we'll need to see a lot of "chalk" this weekend. And might even need some teams like SMU, that most have ahead of us today, to lose their first tournament games. We got help from Wake and Xavier losing. Teams like Virginia, Va Tech, Dayton, VCU...those are the teams to watch. If IU looks bad tomorrow, and a few of those teams look good and make runs. We very well could be on the outside looking in Sunday.

The bottom line in my opinion is we are in barring many dominoes falling the wrong way and we get blown out tomorrow. Only one of those scenarios happens and we should get in. Really would like to beat Illinois, obviously.

We are in because the other bubble teams are out. The new ones that replaced them are even weaker. We are in regardless of the next game outcome. We needed two games Monday but after X, wake and the other losses took care of one game.
Latest brackets have RU and Indiana in as 11 seeds and Michigan amongst last 4 in . From a
Rutgers Fan that was one hell of a second half . Trace Jackson was a stud and ate Hunter Dickinson alive . Best of luck tomorrow
I love the passion of your fans
You guys deserve this

I think we're in regardless but will feel much better if teams like SMU lose, regardless of what happens with ILL.

Possibly, maybe even probably.

But if:

-We look bad and lose handily tomorrow.
-A couple of the following make deep conf. runs (SMU, Virginia, Va Tech, Dayton, VCU, Notre Dame, Texas A&M)

I think if we look solid tomorrow and its a decent game. And less than a couple of the teams I listed make very deep runs, we'll be in the play in game. A couple of them are already listed above IU in some bracket projections, so in a sense, a couple of these won't matter as they're already above us. And we've likely either passed up, or will stay in front of, Wake, Xavier, BYU, Florida, etc...

Our luck will be that we'll get Dayton in the play in game.

IU will be in. They had too many close losses, so they showed genuine competitiveness. They were soundly beaten twice, and today they rectified one of them. Hopefully they can amend another tomorrow and get a higher seed. Right now I think they're a 12th or possibly 10th seed. Win tomorrow and they might get the 8/9 game.

I’d prefer a 12 as they do well versus 5s, than being on the 8/9.
11 isn't bad either, but I agree the 8/9 & 7/10 suck for making the sweet 16. Seems like a small thing, but Sweet 16's I think help in recruiting, because lasting till the second weekend is a much better look than just making the dance. Also, lower seeded winners sometime catch a break and play another low seeded upset winner in the round of 32.

I think 11 is perfect for us. Hope that's where we end up. I think we are good enough to make a S16 run if the draw is favorable, and if we play well.

In terms of advancing to S16...I think losing a close one tomorrow...the rest of the bubble sucking, and us backing into an 11 seed might actually be better than running the table in the BTT and ending up a 7/8 seed. Obviously the ladder feels better heading into the tournament. But the difference between facing a 9-10 seed and facing a 6 seed is negligible. Its more about matchups on personnel and style. The difference between a 1/2 see and the potential 3 seeds this year, in the 2nd round, is pretty sizeable. The current 1/2, non B10 teams in todays Bracketology on ESPN are: Gonzaga, Baylor, Kansas, Arizona, Kentucky, Duke. The 3/4 seeds are: Villanova, Providendce, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Arkansas, UCLA...again, non B10 because they avoid conf matchups first two rounds. I included the 4's too because they could play up or down.

Anyway...the difference in those groups is VERY striking. We don't want to be 7-10 seeds if we can avoid it.

I'd take a 16 seed though just to be in the tournament at this point.

8/9 game is worst seed they could get . Worst seed in tournament. There have been at least 2 0f the 12 playin teams make the final four . 8/9 means you get a 1 next game with little hope of a win

7/10 not much better, especially this year.

I'll be ecstatic just to see IU's name on Sunday if it happens.

I'll be even more happy if there's an 11 by it. Because none of the likely candidates for 3 seeds scare me at all. UCLA might be a team we don't want to see. Other than that, give me a potential 2nd round matchup with any of Villanova, Providence, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Arkansas...etc... and we'd have a legit shot.

But getting back to first point...wherever we get in, will be awesome if it happens!!!

What schtick? Katz after the game said he had us in regardless.
Some shuck & jive attempt to be funny where he was laughing and saying as long it was a close loss, the committee wouldn't care because their TVs were in a different room and they weren't watching it live. Addressed it directly to IU fans with a "Don't worry Indiana fans...". The other guys in the booth are giggling along with him.
