Kansas seeking $1 million restitution

Gotta love this part:

"The damage done by Mr. Gatto's and his co-conspirators' greed cannot be overstated," Sullivan wrote. "Their actions have impaired the University of Kansas' ability to continue to fully use those resources for both the benefit and welfare of its student-athletes, as well as for its ongoing mission of educational and community development and enrichment."

Their greed?

Am I defending these guys? No - but remember Billy Preston's late model Dodge Charger? Silvio De Sousa going from being considered a near lock for Maryland to committing to Kansas?

The point is the Jayhawks / Self had NO issues with these guys when they were getting players. No one from Kansas seriously questioned where the Charger came from (cars on campus at KU are registered at the beginning of the school year) UNTIL the little fender-bender accident Preston had on campus. Now they are all aghast??

Hypocrites . . .

Dollar Bill Self cheated. He should be fired, not rewarded.

Unfortunately, the NCAA knows where its bread is buttered and they won’t ever punish high profile programs. Fact.

They prefer to redirect their efforts to smaller programs to run a smoke and mirrors routine.

Another hint: never self-report. They actually penalize more for self-reporting schools.

I see Bill Self standing in the background doing his best imitation of the Police Chief in the movie Casa Blanca. "I am shocked, Shocked I say to discover that this activity has taken place under our noses around our beloved program."

Of course now that we have become accustomed to the money and perks, let's have our AD and legal counsel see if they can find a way to keep the Money Train running.

It's pretty clear how the game was being played. AAU, shoe companies, the agents and runners doing the Dirty Work while the big programs sat back indirectly complicit and benefiting. But what they didn't expect is the FBI to get undercover videos, phone taps, emails and text messages. So now we'll see how this all gets sorted out

"Never self report." That's good advice. I'm pretty sure a version of that advice is included in The Art if the Deal.

Not sure if it’s in that book but.....when you fight the NCAA, like UNC, you come out smelling like a rose. Schools that are complicit with the NCAA get the brunt of penalties. The NCAA is a sham and has been for decades. The fact that they had a guy like Miles Brand hired to lead them at one point tells you how inept they are.

KU has "played too close to the fire" for years when it comes to recruiting. Note that darn near every season for the last 5, they've had to sit guys for parts of seasons to check out various eligibility issues. Now that they get some real punishment, or at least the kid did, they blame the system they helped take full advantage of for so long.

Kansas= no Self-reporting. Like the criminals they are, their lawyers try to make them the victims. Bwhaaaa!!!

NCAA will never do that. But, don’t be surprised if they actively pursue a lesser name/ smaller school to misdirect the public attention.

you may be right but way too many smoking guns to ignore this.

UNC was smart to let non-athletes take those classes. that's how they skated. Self was calling and texting. Pure hubris. I actually think he goes down for this. To his credit, it took the friggin FBI to do it. lol

Yeah UNC basket weaving courses, rampant academic fraud, and nothing happens.
