We've talked a little bit previously regarding CKW's relationship with the media early on in his tenure as head coach of the Hoosiers. The Jack Trudeau interview going down as the most (in)famous.
Well, it looks like Jim Harbaugh may have trumped that. BTN was on the Michigan campus to do their camp tour stop with the Wolverines.
The result? The first time in 112 BTN camp tours where the head guy (Harbaugh) refused to talk to BTN's crew of Dinardo, Resvine and Griffith.
He said he prefers to talk only with local media if he has to.
Is this really a good move when the conference network is on campus to promote your school? I guess if he wins, nobody will care....much like RMK's media relations.

I find it ironic that some hosts at the network literally defended him as being "so focused". I do not understand the anointing he has received, past success at SF or not. Now an Urban Meyer has at least proven it on the field in the conference but I find it difficult to believe the same commentators would be so kind to another coach.

It makes one wonder whether he's either unhappy with what he's seen in practices . . . or maybe he just doesn't want to provide any public indication regarding what he thinks his team can and can't be expected to do on the field.

Or maybe he just doesn't care . . . and doesn't have to care, given his contract.

What's more likely is that this is a calculated move on his part, along with his Cowherd interview earlier in the summer. I think he's trying to portray this rogue/cowboy/maverick persona, and for the most part, the media he is spurning is eating up. Plus it buys him some leeway with the local Michigan media that are getting goosebumps that he's giving them the "exclusive" Harbaugh.

When i was a lad, if i started acting like a brat my parents would warm my seat and get my attention. Maybe IU could give him a good ole fashion butt whippin and make his seat warm and bring him back to earth again. VBG

Sounds like Jimmy boy doesn't have much appreciation for BTN money that UM receives every year...

I think he's just a strange guy.

Me too. He seems to have gotten pretty weird since his days at QB for the Colts. Strange behavior. Wonder if the niners thought the same thing.
The Niners kicked him to the curb in spite of him leading the team to the Super Bowl the year prior. There's a reason they and Stanford were happy that he was no longer their coach.

Harbaugh is a jack-ass. Where does he think that money is coming from to pay his salary? Certainly not the thousands of free tickets Michigan has had to give away for every game to keep their stadium "sold-out"

no he didn't have anything to do with only talking to local media. he hasn't talked to anybody in weeks. he told all of the media that the team was going underground till the season starts. nobody is allowed at any practice. not the media or former players. when btn was at Michigan didn't do what they have been doing in practice.

Michigan sold out every game for the season in july. this happen because harbaugh is the coach.

I would love it if IU had Jim Harbaugh's problems. Michigan has great fans. And Harbough can flat out coach. But stiffing the Big 10 network was just stupid. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

From what I've heard the Niners think he's bi-polar. I think he may have Aspergers.
I have had the same thought (it's not a slam, it's an explanation), but if that is the case, I would think he would not keep that a secret. It would be inspirational to others with social disorders to see how successful he has become in spite of that obstacle.

The "anointing?"

He's one of the best coaches in the country at any level.

Stanford was not happy to see Harbaugh go. They tried to keep him.

The only people in the 49ers organization happy he is gone is their petulant, spoiled-brat owner's son and the equally situated G.M.

Is this board so drunk on IU training camp football, that you do not think Harbaugh is an elite coach?

Didn't say he wasn't a good coach. Personally I've liked what he's done. Elite or not, he's blowing off 1st major BTN media rounds w/ no blowback. Can't imagine that happening with any other conference coaches and not drawing negative attention. But thanks for board insult.

I don't think anyone is denying that Harbaugh has a great track record. It is a little bit over the top for any media to declare him a great big 10 coach having not even coach the game in the conference yet. But, it's all just preseason fluff.

Talk about biting the hand that helps feed you! Now, obviously Michigan's football program brings in its own revenue but you still can't minimize the $$ the BTN brings into UM either. Not to mention anytime they air archived football games on BTN they usually include UM or O$U games in the broadcast.....

Let's face it, it's a lot less fun to go to an IU game now that BTN televises them and we sit around for hours waiting for commercials to finish. Before, IU games were rarely televised and they just played football. I'm not saying we should get rid of televising-we need the money the way major college athletics is now, just pointing out it's a very mixed blessing.
