If anyone hasn’t heard by now, plays for the Utah Jazz as of the bs trade between the Mavs and Lakers.

Basically Luka for AD. NBA allows all the star players to get traded to the Lakers for practically nothing. Other teams could have offered way more for Luka! Doesn’t help that Cuban is no longer in charge and the new owner formerly worked for LaL.
I guess the Mavs will roll with 3 starting Cs now and LA will have no C! Im sure the NBA will gift LA another superstar for a washing machine! I hope Luka stays out of shape and fails until Leebro retires! NBA sucks, glad I dont watch it!
With all that said, I hope JHS finds a success place in Utah!

One more season and his contract expires with one. further year player option. He wanted out of Dallas.. Mavs could trade him now and get something in return or wait and get nothing when he left.

I hate the Lakers but attractive destination for many players.

I don't really follow the NBA, but I'm not sure AD is "nothing" or the equivalent of a washing machine trade bait. Something I don't like about the way that he carries himself, but he's one of the most physically talented and gifted players out there. I can see him butting heads with LeBron and also see why Dallas might want someone who is better on the defensive end, and why AD would want to be "the man" on a roster. I have no idea on their physical condition or contract, but on paper, this makes sense to me.

JHS may find success in Utah but I doubt it. He has not scored 30 points total in his NBA career and is now in his 2nd season. JHS=BUST so far. He left too early. He should have stayed at IU and worked on developing his game; better for IU and better for him.

Luka was smart. He made a boatload of money in no income tax state and now can go to LA and try for the championship he has talked about and probably better place for an MVP. AD and LeBron weren’t making any progress so good opportunity for AD.

Reports are that Luka did not request a trade. This was the GMs doing alone.

One of the dumber trades in sports history. He's one of the top 3 or 4 players in the NBA, with a chance to be an all-time great. He's 25. And you don't even shop him around?

I based my comments on reports like this-

“Cuban's comments came one day after Doncic, after his declaration that he wouldn't be shut down unless play-in hopes were completely extinguished, bemoaned how much the Mavs' chemistry had declined this season and admitted that the team sorely missed Brunson.

"A lot," Doncic said, shaking his head and gritting his teeth into a pained grin. "I mean, amazing guy, amazing player, for sure."

Doncic had grown impatient with the Mavs' mediocrity early in the season, when he was playing at an MVP-caliber level while carrying a historically heavy workload. For the first time in his career, Doncic enthusiastically engaged in personnel discussions with the front office, as sources told ESPN that he pushed for a major upgrade despite the Mavs' limited trade assets.”

They are again having a mediocre season and doesn’t change the fact he could simply walk when his contract expires.

It depends on your goals. If you just want to put some good players on the floor then different goals if fully committed to pursuing a championship. Lakers are fifth in the West and Mavs 8th. Neither are progressing and LeBron and AD not getting younger. If you are all in on a championship and not progressing you need to shake things up.

He was a guaranteed first rounder: hard to pass that up. Edey would have gone pro his junior year if he was a guaranteed first rounder. JHS has also had injury issues. I hope he can get things sorted out.

Your Celts are still the best so don’t worry.

Have you explained this to his Mother?

if JHS has to go to europe he will find decent paydays. the teams there covet ex NBA players. and he will likely enjoy the added playing time.

Yes, but not 1st round NBA money. And risked injury, etc.
He wasn’t ready for NBA regular duty and would have been better off from a basketball standpoint staying at least one more year. Financially, he probably has cost himself a 2nd contract.

By the way, the “risk” of a debilitating injury is less than 1%.

If he needs another year of work I’d think he would do better with NBA coaches and trainers than another year at IU under Woodson.

He didn’t want out. He just bought a $15M home in Dallas.

Okay, this is evidence he didn’t expect to leave. He has made statements in the recent past (peaked after the Brunson trade) that he wanted a championship and needed help. They brought in Kyrie and the Mavs are not progressing. They played well last season when Kyrie turned it up but have regressed. It will be interesting to see how Kyrie and AD play together. It may be that Kyrie and AD mesh better than Luka and LeBron.

There have been claims that ESPN dramatized his position as wanting a trade. If that is true then my opinion of him as a player goes down. I thought he was sincere about winning a championship as his primary goal. When your star is playing comfortably, and team performance is below goals, then a case for shaking up the team. High risk, high reward, but no more status quo that wasn’t reaching team objectives. The comfort zone has been obliterated. The Dallas GM is right I believe, team defense will improve.

There are reasonable questions about how LeBron and Luka will coexist but if they see a likely championship together then I guess things will work out.

Quote from Dallas’ GM-
There are all kinds of quotes from Harrison out there already about why he ultimately decided to pull the trigger on this deal. I'm paraphrasing here, but they range from: "defense wins championships and Luka doesn't play defense or stay in shape" to "we weren't sure about giving Luka a $400 million super-max contract and we wanted to avoid the drama of him eventually wanting to go elsewhere anyway."

And then the money-
Harrison also cited Doncic's upcoming contract extension as rationale for the trade, noting that teams have shown interest in him down the line. Doncic was eligible for a five-year, $345 million supermax deal with Dallas this summer; with the trade, he is no longer supermax eligible.

I just read Harrison’s Wiki. He made a presentation to Steph and called him Seth and used a presentation for Kevin Durant when he was Nike’s rep in the west for the NBA. Steph went with Under Armour. ;)

But you are right. There is evidence that he didn’t expect and was not actively seeking a trade at this time.

Okay, maybe the guy is just an idiot but by all reports a personable idiot. :)

If JHS had stayed any longer in B-town under Woody and this staff, he certainly wouldn’t have been developed and his draft stock certainly would not have improved. Woody doesn’t “develop” players or teams. The kids like TJD and JHS had the natural talent to get to the next level. It certainly wasn’t any big coaching influence from Woodson that elevated their play. Naturally gifted guys can deflect any bad coaching they get from Woodson. The other kids all seem to deteriorate under his helm.

JHS should of stayed and worked more on his outside shot. Just like Langford if you can't shoot the three it's hard to stay in the NBA. To be honest the NBA sucks haven't watched any games this year or really the last few years.

as a guard, he needs to be able to hit the outside shot. but he has all the resources he needs to improve his game. he did not need another year of college to get that done.
and you should go see an NBA game. the product is so much better than it was years ago. not perfect but much better.

Anybody who says the "NBA game" sucks just hasn't watched in the last 10 years. I prefer the college game still because of team/school allegiances, etc... but strictly on a bball skill level the NBA is light years better. Like the difference between watching NFL and college fball. The way they move the ball, probe, and everyone can make shots. Even the defense is good considering the # of games.
