There’s a good recent episode of Plain English with Ezra Klein where they discuss this issue. Klein says the left has been too focused on funding for its issues without conducting the necessary follow up to test results. He believes they have become untethered.

All of this is similar to what I have been saying. Instead of focusing on the size of government, we should focus on results.
 
How much corporate welfare does JP Morgan get per year? It used to be in the billions. Cut that first if still happening.

Thompson used this example on his podcast tour for his book with Klein: Mayor Johnson just touted how much Chicago has spent on public housing. He named the amount and the number of units created—comes out to over $1 million per unit.

That's the type of shit that doesn't work in the private sector - because you become distressed or bankrupt.
