I have said that Dem presidents tend to do things that stand in the way of expanding domestic oil/gas production (or things supportive of it, such as the Keystone XL pipeline extension) -- and, IMO, without much of a good reason other than a general aversion to the use of fossil fuels.
The crazy part about that pipeline project is that canceling it wasn't going to keep the Alberta syncrude in the ground. It just meant it was going to have to be transported to market by means that were less efficient, more costly, and requiring more use of energy.
We should absolutely continue to develop new sources of energy. I just saw the other day that AEP is setting aside some funds for a prospective nuclear power plant to replace their existing coal-fired plant in Rockport, IN -- just down the street from me. That's great news. And I'm all in favor of increasing solar production, too.
