James Scott L'ville Center

Just read he portaled last minute.

Young, big and long, with decent numbers for L'ville in 31 starts last season.
Gotta get a big or two like him here at some point...but his production has been pretty underwhelming, especially against good teams.

Finding, and landing, a starter level big, that's anything like the Florida, Houston, Auburn, monsters... at this point, is gonna be pretty difficult. Probably looking more for depth guys. If Scott has the right mentality, I'm sure he'd be decent in that role for us...and he'd have 2 years of eligibility.

Some really decent bigs have been taken early. Either we never contacted them, they knew where they wanted to go, or they wanted too much for what their stats showed. Yet there are still opportunities and most schools spend a huge amount already. So that might bode well for IU at the finish line. Maybe CDD like a track guy.....pacing himself for an all out sprint at the end to the tape for the win.

Hope so... not a ton of guys left that are anything similar to the bigs we all saw in the later stages of the NCAA tournament.

Just looking at the portal from an economic model viewpoint, CDD currently has an ample supply of the primary resources that good big men are seeking: money, playing time, solid roster, winning potential, proven coaches.
As you said - it could translate to a strong finish.

You are right. I enjoy your posts more than most. You seem to have better insight than most without over stating facts.

Reading my mind. We're following the Kelsey construction plan, might as we get the center familiar with it. Bailey can be Waterman in this scenario.

Scott shoots almost double the percentage from the field as he does at the line.

Is that good or bad?
FT shooting for bigs is often their weakness, but the really good ones use it as a weapon. Foul them, they make FTs. Don't guard them tough, they get a bucket.

I remember Shaq shooting and noticing how the ball didn't rest comfortably in his tennis racket sized hands and how he tried different ways of holding the ball.

Going way back, Wilt Chamberlain really struggled shooting free throws. Went to an underhand style and did better.

Except when he played IU in his last collegiate game. He hit all his fts. 12 or 13 or so

And I remember Shaq torching us (but losing) when Coach Knight sent him to the free throw line all game because he (legitimately) couldn't shoot a FT. He went 17-17. Think it may still be record ... against IU and for Shaq.
