Just noticed that he did not play at all last night. Does anyone know why? Is he injured? Is he in the doghouse?
Injured...hamstring.Just noticed that he did not play at all last night. Does anyone know why? Is he injured? Is he in the doghouse?
He's been injured since before their first summer league game, I believe.Just noticed that he did not play at all last night. Does anyone know why? Is he injured? Is he in the doghouse?
I’d love to see it!Waiting for the firestorm here if TJD knocks down 2 or 3 treys in his possible debut tonight.
Duh?his game will be passing to set up shooters.
Not a bad start but I wish he could do better with the outside shot. Perhaps he is at the point where he has worked so hard in practice to perfect it that he has just given up because he just can't do it.He ended up with 14 pts and 7 rbs in 20 minutes of action, no 3pt attempted. Not bad for 1st(?) game and coming off an injury. Had a +\- of -7, which is good compared to rest of team (only 2 players had positive numbers in that stat and they played 2 minutes ea) don’t know anything else on that game
I thought he would back up curry. The Golden State GM just said the roster is too deep for TJD and his game will be passing to set up shooters.
They drafted him to replace Steph, Kurt.I thought he would back up curry.
He's coming off an injury. He was clearly not as explosive as he normally is. His lack of endurance, due to injury, also played a role in how he looked athletically. He looked fine. It is amazing how “average” an athlete he looks like next to all those guys. Not sure any of us can truly comprehend how big, and how good pro ball players are these days.
He’s gonna have to find a midrange/perimeter shot, and become a little more dynamic to get a “big” 2nd congract. But he’s in a great spot. Playing against Looney and Green in practices will be an awesome experience for him.
Agree. He looked liked he did during that stretch this year when was maxing out the allowable Doan's backache pill dosage. He'll be fine when he gets back to 100%He's coming off an injury. He will not look like an "average" athlete once completely healthy and in shape. I'm fairly certain you will be proven wrong in this assessment.
Anyone who actually watched the game would have seen this immediately. The interesting thing to me was, coming off the injury and clearly being out of shape, he absolutely did not look out of place out there. He'll be one of the more athletic big men in the league when healthy.Agree. He looked liked he did during that stretch this year when was maxing out the allowable Doan's backache pill dosage. I don't watch NBA games very often, so I could be woefully uninformed, but I'm not sure if he could have landed in a better spot for his skillset.Anyone who actually watched the game would have seen this immediately. Yep. Already looking more athletic coming back from injury. I'm of the opinion he will be in the NBA a long time. His 2nd contract will be a formality. The only question will be how much he will make. Some nice assists, a bit more fluid, and looking good in this afternoons game.
His teammates have looked for him on a couple lob opportunities too.
He played well today and it was interesting seeing him play in a modern offense and more from the dunkers spot than as a post up. Still running pnr but when not he's weakside baseline and he does very well rebounding and cutting into shots from that spot..It’s been fun following some of the Warriors’ twitter sites. There were quite a few complaints at the time when they took him. Realize it’s just summer league, but many of their fans are very bullish on him now and think he will get some decent minutes. Ditto as to him being in the perfect spot. He’ll have a decent shot, and that’s really all you can ask for.
Agree. Summer league games are brutal. Guys chucking up shots even though they have zero shot at landing a roster spot.He played well today and it was interesting seeing him play in a modern offense and more from the dunkers spot than as a post up. In both games he put up fairly huge offensive rebound numbers. That alone will keep him in the league if he can do it in real games. Board man gets paid.
sloppy games in summer league ..
No, he didn’t. He had a couple dunks where he looked every bit as explosive as he did when healthy at IU.Agree. He looked liked he did during that stretch this year when was maxing out the allowable Doan's backache pill dosage. He'll be fine when he gets back to 100%
Yeah, he did. He played tentative and was not moving like he can. You say as much right after saying he didn't.No, he didn’t. He had a couple dunks where he looked every bit as explosive as he did when healthy at IU.
Obviously his injury slowed him down a bit. He even looks a little bulkier, not as “cut”.
Being an average NBA athlete is spectacular though. I mainly was referring to how different he looks playing alongside everyone else’s best players, athletically. He’s still a very good athlete, for a big. And that will keep him in the league for a long time, I suspect. But he isn’t going to be able to dominate the game athletically any more.
To get that 15-20 mil a year type contract in a few years, he’s gonna need a shot or some dynamic play making.
Finally caught a few min Sat. Looked a bit still but some of that is the fact there is no game plan at this point.Yeah, he did. He played tentative and was not moving like he can. You say as much right after saying he didn't.
He looked better tonight, but still wasn't at 100% all the time. Plenty of times he wasn't busting it up and down the court like he could. He's picking his spots as best he can with a hamstring that's been bothering him.
I too think TJD has a real good situation. The Warriors are not bottom feeders so they can win some games. Trayce can be a decent guy in the second unit that will help them win. It’s been fun following some of the Warriors’ twitter sites. There were quite a few complaints at the time when they took him. You're moving the goal posts. You were initially worried about TJD getting a 2nd contract, now you are saying to get $15-20M a year contract in a few years, he'll need the skills you stated earlier. No, he didn’t. He had a couple dunks where he looked every bit as explosive as he did when healthy at IU.

And, well, he already has a 4 year 8mil contract, so ... room to grow and keep earning. I think he has a place on this Warrior team. You're moving the goal posts. The fact is TJD is coming off an injury in isn't in any type of shape. His lack of athleticism in the 1st game (if you can call it that) is directly attributed to that, not the better athletes around him.
TJD will be an elite athlete big in the NBA. He won't be anywhere near average athletically, provided he keeps his body right.

I'll disagree on this. There are guys with that kind of contract who play very similar to TJD today, including Looney on the Warriors and Gafford on the Wizards. I'll add shot blockers to TMP's comment that rebounders get paid. The Warriors already have shooters. To get that 15-20 mil a year type contract in a few years, he’s gonna need a shot or some dynamic play making.
you are correct. by NBA standards he is not super athletic and never will be injured or not. and the summer league games were basically against 3rd rate players who won't even make a roster. there is a reason he stayed at IU 4 years and got drafted late in the 2nd round. I do think he has a chance to stick around the league for a while if he can develop any kind of a mid-range game.Re read my OP...
I worded it badly, making it sound like I think TJD is a bad athlete. He isn't. And I know he's been injured. Just not sure you're as "up to speed" as you think you are on how athletic the NBA has become, and is becoming more so every year. There are dozens of Kai Jones/Greg Brown type players on NBA benches that are as good or better athletes than TJD. Literally every single game he plays in next year, he'll be facing at least a couple equal or better athletes.
I'll repeat it, since I'm sure you won't go back and read it... He's going to have to find a shot, and or some form of dynamic playmaking to get a "big" 2nd contract. As is, he's likely good enough to be a solid bounce around the league, depth guy.
This IS NOT a knock on Trayce. I'm beyond excited, and proud, to see him on the Warriors this year. It was an acknowledgment that its going to look a lot different than watching him at IU.
I do think his jumping ability is above average when healthy. TJD has the ability to hang in the air that not many guys his size have.you are correct. by NBA standards he is not super athletic and never will be injured or not. and the summer league games were basically against 3rd rate players who won't even make a roster. there is a reason he stayed at IU 4 years and got drafted late in the 2nd round.
