A road game, but what a squeaker. From the second quarter on we had a 1-5 point lead. With 1:34 left in the fourth quarter we were down 1 and momentum was all NW.
We escaped (the right word I think) with a four point win.
Strip is playing a little better than Lilly the last few games, but between the two we have a solid big. Unfortunately top programs seem to have a big that can take over a game and carry a team, at least for crucial minutes.
When we do not have threes dropping (3-10 in the second and third quarters) the absence of offensive rebounds or short rim shots with an and 1 is very evident.
A win is a win I guess.
Sunday we play at Iowa. Jenn Jensen is the new coach there but she had been Lisa Bulder’s assistant for 15 years. I am sure they will be the same old Iowa.
Always interested in other’s take on the game.

I forgot to add FTs. We were 16-18 and NW 9-15. That was a big deal difference. I remember Knight once saying a goal for every game is to make more FTs than the opponent shoots. Mission accomplished this time.

I only saw the 4th quarter, and not even all of that, but I listened to a good chunk of the second half. Sounded lethargic, sloppy. Some bad whistles. Seemed Northwestern packed it in and made us shoot and we couldn't.

Since Iowa doesn't play much defense, I'll give us a 40% shot of winning over there.

It seems that winning against top teams will be a function of our three point percentage in that game.
Not ideal, but without a super star here we are. USC, UCLA, ND, UCONN, SC all have multiple WNBA players. We need Wiseman and Fenn to really blossom as bigs. We need our recruits for 2025 to play better than their star ranks suggest and get a star to transfer to us.

I don't disagree with what we need, but I think we'll be hard pressed to get all or a lot of those things. I don't think Teri's style of play is every going to be appealing to multiple can't-miss WNBA players at the same time. But I'm still enjoying being competitive with good teams with the hopes of pulling a few upsets this year. I've stated before that if Wiseman is going to blossom, it won't be next year, and perhaps not the year after either. I'm just not seeing it thus far.

I didn't watch, but I did listen to the Doing the Work podcast summary after the game. It's a good show if you haven't listened to it. The lady's version of Assembly Call on the Back Home Network.
