Tight tight game with big runs. Yardon was 8-10 from 3 point range. Syd was 4-6 from three. When our threes fall we can be tough to beat. Better threes and we would have beaten USC and Oregon.
We still need to recruit those top ten guys, someone that can be in the POY conversations.
Ladies are fun to watch. Good kids who play hard and like each other. 5-4 in the big ten now.

It was a fun one to watch in person. Coach was very animated. Washington players flopped a lot. Worth making the trip up from the Bay Area!

Second game in a row that Ciezski has disappeared. She has to give the team some scoring for them to be a tough out.
She was held scoreless at Oregon and only got 2 points last night.
Moren has got to get more quickness and athleticism into the program or she will get left in the dust. She is an awesome Coach but it seems she has missed on her recruiting the past couple of years, especially the bigs. Thank goodness for the Portal.

Shay is too small to get shots off.

I'm already in roster prediction mode. I think you'll see Jules and Lily both transfer, which doesn't leave a lot of experienced players for next year. Gotta hit the portal hard and rely more on the freshmen coming in than we normally do.

I still enjoy watching this program, but there are certainly frustrations about individual performance from time to time.

That '24 class was really a bad one and surprising based on all the good things that were happening around the program at the time. Is Kadiecova going to be a player? I think the other two are at best future role players.

I like what Ive read and what little I've seen of the '25 kids. Caffey looks like a Chloe clone the way she plays but is much further advanced than was Chloe at the same stage.. She's a winner as well. Makalvsky is a skilled kid that can shoot it. She's not real physical, however. They really, really need a big athletic girl.

The only '26 recruit to date is Ashlinn James, a very quick 5 7 kid from Louisville.

I think Jules has some talent, but she's either immature or lacks focus, because she cant play long before making a dumb play. Obviously Lenee getting hurt puts a big cloud on that class. That girl needed to learn to play D, but I saw some Grace-esque offensive ability from her that I hope can re-emerge.

3-3 vs AP top 25. They are still in the hunt.

I looked at the remaining schedule. Nebraska this Sunday at home is a big one. The schedule after that is favorable for the W-L record. 2 games v. winless Purdue and one v. 1 win Rutgers. The two best teams, MD and OSU, we play at home.

The BT is interesting this year. 12 teams are very good or good, Iowa at 13 is a bridge team, then the last 5 are really bad. Rutgers and PSU, who both have some good women hoops history, have won 1 BT game each,. Wisconsin also has 1 win, while NW and Purdue are winless.

And the PSU win was against OSU. Head scratcher

I like Julianna for her toughness/competitiveness and overall attitude, but I don't see a large upside. She lacks quickness and is neither a great shooter nor a really good ballhandler. I would think that her high school success was mostly from her aggressiveness. That said, she's an experienced kid and has a role to play if she stays around.

I know Lenee and Julianna were both highly productive winners in HS, but neither is really outstanding in ant particular area of the game at the college level. Lexi's fast as hell but has limitations as well.

Why do you think Lily may transfer? She looks like she'd get plenty of minutes next year.

Yea not a clue why you would think Lily will transfer, has started 17/20 games, getting 20+ mins a game and averaging over 9 a game. Would think she is the top big in the program next year, and even if we bring in another from the portal, I do not see her playing less than this year. If she was willing to sit behind Mak for 2 years to wait her turn, not sure why she leaves now???

Next year will depend on a few things, can Yardon make another jump in consistency when she goes to the top of the scouting report, how good will Beau be after surgery (offensively, I think REALLY good, but can she guard), does Shay take the year 1 to 2 jump in the program that Scallia did, what do we get out of Valentyna, and can Mya and or Caffey adjust to the physicality of the B1G as a fresh.

Bad news is most of our best portal recruits have been guards or tweeners like Parrish......

Will Yardon for sure be back? She's a long way from home and next year is not looking like a championship-level team. I assume she's getting some NIL?

Concerning Mya.......to me, she looks like she can really shoot it, but is something of a finesse player. I would not think she would get major pt next year.

When you play 1 post player, and had Mak for 5 years, do you really think you are going to get xfers to come in to be her back up?? Brenna Wise was pretty good as a more traditional 4 who could stretch it a little bit, Stripplin has been solid paired with Lily playing 18 mins and just over 9 ppg and shooting close to 60%.

Easier to get guards and wings when you play 4 of them vs 1 post, esp when you have Anderson, Cahill, Wise, Royster, Mack, and Gulbe as the posts/stretch bigs in Moren's time. Brenna was an xfer and the rest were recruits. Most top level bigs are not going to want to split time as a big in a guard centric system--outside of Mack's last 2 years (still played 4 perimeter players), but she made it very clear for 3 years she was playing 5, so this is the 1st year we were really looking for bigs in the portal and got a pretty good one.

Correct, Mya is not a big, even at 6-3, and she can shoot it!! Needs to add muscle, but has talent, and will be really good, just a matter of how quickly that will be

We need a talent upgrade at the 5 position. Lilly does what she can but she's not good enough to be starting on a top 10 team; nor is Striplin. Holmes was a bit of a freak, in that she performed at a level that far exceeded her physical ability. We need someone with actual athleticism at that position. The '24 class was an abject failure for that reason.

Meister and Stripplin combine to average 38 mins, 18.5 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.2 spg, 1.3 bpg, shoot 56% from the field, and 77% from the FT line. Pretty damn good numbers from the 5!!

Is it Mack, no, but not many are and really good bigs are hard to find

Because she was given/earned/whatever the role of starter this year and she's floundered, especially against good competition. Her confidence seems shot. Strip is clearly the choice to play over Lily right now. Lily only plays bc Strip can't play 40 minutes. I just think she might be looking to take a step back and find her love of the game again, because the girl just doesn't look happy or confident.

I think Shay is our PG next year, unless we get a good portal PG. She's too small to get shots off on her own, but has a pretty good handle and is PG2 right now anyway. She's a tough sumbitch, but she isn't going to grow/get taller.

Their numbers about basically identical--including minutes played--in fact Lily is playing 3 more mins per game

It was a fun one to watch in person. Coach was very animated. Washington players flopped a lot. Worth making the trip up from the Bay Area!
The big ten plus announcer commented on the flopping as well.
We also had a lot of moving screens called on us. Is that something our guys need better coaching technique on or more of a ref thing.

I was in Seattle in December and watched a UW mens game at the arena. I thought it was a cool place. For anyone interested, was built in 1927, renovated in 2000. Seats about 9300.

It seemed to me that they were making a big effort to be set on their screen at the game so it's an area they are trying to improve on.
