Two FTs by Holmes put IU up by double digits at 46-35. It was IU 48-37 at the TV timeout with 4:33 left in the period. Holmes had gone to the bench with two fouls before the TV timeout. After two Illini FTs, back-to-buckets by the Illini off two turnovers by IU put the lead back down to five at 48-43. Two more FTs by the Illini put the lead at 48-45 IU. Another basket by the Illini put the lead at 48-47 IU with under two minutes left in the period.

A three ball by Moore-McNeil put IU up 59-56 and that was the score at a 4:48 TV timeout with the Illini with the ball.
Another turnover by IU put the score at 59-58 IU, but three of four FTs by Holmes put the lead back up to 64-60 with 2:47 left. A three-point shot by the Illini put IU up 64-63 with 2:06 left and IU at the line. Two FTs by Holmes gave them another three point lead with under two left. But another bucket by the Illini and an IU turnover, their 16th of the game, gave the Illini the ball down one point at 66-65 with 1:20 left at a timeout.
