Reneau is out, will be interesting to see if IU looks much better on offense. Indiana 67-58 over Penn State. Woodson factor = 8 pt win for PSU. It's IU's day today. 67-58or59.
They’ve been solid defensively…relative to who they are. They still have really no clue how to guard ball screens…but they’re playing hard. And they’re helping and recovering better, so far.
Any theories on why we can’t defend backdoor cuts and the pick and roll? It’s almost comical at this point…
Or ‘hack a Shaq’, which works if they have enough players to give fouls.😁 If IU could hit 3-pointers and Ballo knew how to kick out a pass, they might have something.
Saw an instagram post a couple days ago from him…I think… it just showed an immobilized leg in one of those soft cast type braces….watching maybe a HS practice, with an inspirational quote on it. Long winded way of saying he might be spending some time at home. Did he have a surgery recently?
Effort is there but offense is a train wreck without Reneau despite more spacing as the “experts” would say. Defensive rotations have been better I will admit and IU has done a good job of limiting good perimeter looks, but IU is going to have to manufacture some points at the rim outside of Ballo.
Ironically/unfortunately…these 2 games likely would have been huge games for Malik. Hummel touched on where an easy opportunity to hurt PSUs defense is…pick and roll pocket passes. Reneau is borderline dominant in that pocket roll spot.
Defensively, not sure what Malik’s impact would have been. Might have helped a little with some more size in the lane. But I think we’re probably winning this game, maybe controlling it, if Malik were playing.
Winning this game on effort right now. Matching and exceeding Penn State right now who plays extremely hard. Real good spark there from MM.
After that MM 8-0 run, he’s been awful. No defense. Multiple turnovers. He’s so frustrating. Grrrrr.
I just love it when a defensive player just slaps at the ball and gives up an easy and 1! In the old days, we’d make sure the offensive player doesn’t even get the shot up! Just another thing that grinds my gears!
Could have essentially put the game away. Just “had” to sit Rice, Goode, and Mgbako. Now it’s a game. And we could very easily blow this game. He’s so awful.

Still need his shot. But yeah, he’s been pretty awful after that burst out of the half. The problem comes when he’s out AND so are multiple other starters.

Liked the effort today. 3s still falling, very nice to see. Ballo seems to have been awakened after being benched. Even when being payed a shitload of money, the bench is still a great motivator. Mbako scoring like that can make up for his defensive deficiencies.
