IU offers 2020 PG Curbelo (link)

Can never have too many ball handlers on a team. Look at Virginia last year, they started Jerome, Guy who could have been the starting PG on just about any team last year, and Kihei Clark. That’s 3 PG’s in 1 backcourt. I don’t think adding Curbelo deters Lander at all. It appears IU and Michigan are the two front runners. Michigan already has deJulius who was rated higher than Phinisee who would be a senior (like Phinisee) Lander’s freshman year, and they have a top 50 PG in Zeb Jackson committed for 2020. Wherever Lander goes, he’s going to be playing with guards that are just as good and on top of it more experienced.

Giving the due props to dbmhoosier for a PERFECT response to fpeaugh in another thread but just as appropriate here.

"Could you just step off the ledge and support our team this season? I actually think we'll be one the most improved teams in the nation and season 4 will be even better yet. Archie finally appears to have a solid plan and it doesn't involve chasing OAD 5 stars. If by some chance I'm wrong and this year we suck again Archie will soon be gone and you can gloat all you want. We all know that's what you hope happens. Until then sit down and shut up."

It may be an indication of where the staff feels they sit for Lander et al. Or, it could be a perceived "fit" offer. I like what Archie is doing now. He seems to be following the VZ/Nova model (which was once our model). Will it work? Time will tell, but I love the kids he is getting.

pass on this kid. He is a poor shooter, or worse. All-in on KLander.
? Poor shooter. Where did you get that from? He shot 53% overall on the AAU circuit. He’s currently the 7th rated point in his class. And he’s an improving player. Great quickness with the ball and appears to be one of those players who can see a play developing before its there. A classic pass first point. His game and ability to separate from defenders with the ball reminds me a little of Juan Dixon.
We need multiple play makers on this team. Lander is far from a done deal anyway.
If this kid is good enough to be recruited by Kansas and the Ville he’s good enough for us.

21.6% from 3. He does look proficient on his layups.

Going all in is a risky strategy. Look at keon brooks.
agree with you on this one....everyone is screaming for us to get more high-4 stars/5s, but as these recruits climb in the rankings, they start getting offers from the Dukes/UKs/Kansas of the world. A coach has to be working on plans A, B, and C simultaneously. Otherwise you end up scrambling at the end of the recruiting season to snatch one away from Incarnate Word and give a 4 yr scholly to a good kid who is never going to see the court (sorry Priller the Thriller, didn't want to dump on a nice kid, but had to make a point).

We only have one primary ball handler on the team. Green and Durham can mitigate that this year, but we can’t wait until 2021 to get another one.

Legit point. I really wanted Cross, but am now really pumped that IU got the commitment from Geronimo. I will do a little research on Curbelo before any more posts, as I sure don't want another Priller for 4 years.

Getting Garcia would be huge (although he seems to be more of an inside-out type of player rather than a true 'big' back-to-the basket type of player). Landing him would probably put our 2020 class in top 5-10 when it's over. But the blue bloods I mentioned above are now in hunt for him as his stock has soared, so I am skeptical that he'll wind up in Bloomington.

and agree on Cross, you can never have enough tough hard nose kids on a team who won't wilt on the road in February. But this Geronimo kid seems like he's got some of that as well. Any kid who talks about how he values defensive effort (and not talk about what the program can do to get them into the draft asap) appreciates team-style ball over hero ball.

I wouldn’t rely on such a small sample size of shot taking to determine whether he can shoot from distance or not.

And there's more than just shooting before dismissing a player. Shooting is obviously a plus, but you need more than just your PG to be able to break their man down off the dribble. Phinisee was pretty good last year and Romeo excelled with his right hand, but IU just lacked the firepower last year to beat their defender off the dribble and create and it made for many stagnant possessions. Having a backcourt featuring 2 dynamic ballhandlers such as Phinisee and Curbelo combo'd with an elite slasher like Geronimo or shooters like Galloway and Leal is exactly what IU has been missing.

IU needs Garcia

He's not a shooter at all, but one of the best passers and competitors in the class. If we can get him, we take him. I've been saying for a while that we need a true ball handler in this class.

Galloway can shoot and pass, and is 6'5" and a good defender.

Quinn Buckner was a poor shooter, Bobby Wilkerson often scared the hell out of me when he shot the ball, I'm glad they were on our team!
Quinn Buckner and Bobby Wilkerson were the best set of defensive guards in IU history. There was no 3pt line in 1976. That changed the game to put a higher premium and emphasis on 3pt shooting.

Bobby Wilkerson is still one of my favorite All-Time Hoosiers. He could change the game without ever scoring a bucket.
