IU@MD Game 2: IU 20 MD 5, Final

IU had a 4-run 1st which was punctuated by a 2-run homer by Lloyd. So far, this is a far different game from the game yesterday. IU has out hit MD, 7-2. Tanner Gordon has given up an earned run in the 1st so far.

IU continues to punish MD pitching. In the top of the 4th, a Dunham single scored two runs, Barr hit a 2-run homer, then after a Richardson single and a Houston double, Gorski added to it with a 3-run homer.

In the 5th, after Lloyd doubled, and Dunham and Barr both walked, Richardson hit a grand slam homer to add to the onslaught. MD brought in another relief pitcher, and Bradley promptly homered to add salt to the wounds.

Tanner Gordon has pitched a really efficient game so far. Through five innings, his pitch count is at 58 and he has given up two hits and one earned run.

Bradley hit a solo homer in the 7th, his second homer of the game.

I don't know if they are going to pull Gordon in the 8th. He knocked them down in order in the 7th, and his pitch count is at 84. He has given up just three hits. IU is batting in the T8th.

Alex Franklin has come on for Gordon in the 8th.

In the 8th, after getting the first two batters, Franklin ran into some trouble with the top of the order. He gave up two straight singles and a walk to load the bases, but was able to get the #4 hitter to fly out for the last out.

In the 9th, Richardson hit a solo homer for his 3rd homer of the game.

For as well as Tanner Gordon pitched, our bullpen was every bit as bad. Franklin, who was fortunate to get out of the 8th after loading the bases, gave up in the 9th in order: a walk, single, walk, and double which scored two runs. Scott came on with runners at 2nd and 3rd, and got a SO, but a SF scored a run charged to Franklin. Scott also gave up a double which scored another run before getting the final out of the 9th. They gave up four earned runs in the 9th all charged to Franklin. It was still a great game as we clubbed nine homers today. It was almost embarrassing to commit an out the way IU was scoring runs.
