IU is this year's UCONN?

They have some similarites

both teams were dominated on offense by two small scoring guards and a wing player. There are differences as well and that difference is why we probably won't win like UCONN. I think a better comparison would be the 2009 Villanova team that made the final four because they started 4 players under 6'5 and a 6'9 player.

He should stay with that discussion

instead of insulting people who don't agree with him. I had said the difference was the size and defense. I never said that they are similar in ever aspect but they are similar because they were lead in scoring by two small guards and a wing. UCONN had more depth upfront but did not get much contribution from them on the offensive end of the floor.

No doubt

and I said the difference was on the defensive side of the floor and I don't think I said that I thought we could win the championship either.

Scott spends more time complaining about other posters

than making substantive contributions to discussions.

I might have to start using that ignore button.

Look.....

....in order to understand and then acutally participate in a logical discussion you're gonna have to learn the basics first.

Just watch the videos.

You should rephrase your last sentence

It should say "to start the season we IU had a 6'9" big who we hoped would play defense and block shots" instead of "thought". There was nothing in his IU career prior to this season that would lend itself to that kind of thougt.

Re: Look at all the post your comparison was terrible. Plenty of people gave

If you noticed, my post was in the form of a question, thus opening debate! As far as "crying to Daddy" that would be impossible since he died in 1983 when I was 25. I did cry that day. I'm also 100% sure that if you saw me face to face you wouldn't tell me to go cry to daddy! And even if you had the guts to, I'd probably laugh in your face or I might rip your head off depending on my mood that day! LOL!

Are you having a go at him?

or are you a berk? He may have left the thread. You've left him knackered.

Re: UH OH! *GASP*

Plymouth! My Wife is from Rochester. I'm a North Central grad from Indy. We reside in KC now.

Is Garry Indiana the alter ego of IU Scott by chance? If not..

the Cry to Daddy comment wasn't directed at you.

"Uping (sic) their game"? Are you serious?

To go from 260 to 10? smh and then right into *facepalm*. Ugh

Guess I didn't catch that. Haven't posted here in years, but usually visit the site daily for entertainment.

"Uping their game" (didn't read before posting), if they can improve to top 50 type defense by end of season, yes they would have a shot at the title. My whole point. Pomeroy is entertaining to see, but YTD statistics cannot tell where a team is in a snap shot in time This team has the physical talent to play good defense. They just need to keep improving their defensive play as a unit. It will come around. I'd just like to see it come around enough by March!

Keep improving defensive play? It's actually getting worse

They've dropped about 80 spots in the defensive rankings over the past 2-3 weeks.

Butler Adj.D 16 Beat em!
SMU Adj.D 25 Beat em!
G.town Adj.D 27 OT
OState Adj.D 39 Beat em!

You win by scoring more points than the other team. Our offense is so good that we don't need to be top top tier defensively, just better than we are currently.

Their guards were also incredible in your face (starting at half court) defenders. I love watching our team but we are nowhere near the intensity of UCONN's defense last year. We can dream though.

Do you think we are capable of more pressure? I do in spurts. Maybe when Stan is in the game. May want to work pressure into the defensive scheme periodically to try to force more turnovers.

Maybe if we could somehow get Victor, Damon and Jeffries back. U Conns defense was excellent and very cohesive as a team. They were fun to watch, like Virginia is as well.

What Stan brings in defense, he gives back in turnovers and crap shots much of the time.

I agree, in order to make a run our defense will have to improve greatly...but I hope it's not at the expense of giving up offense, or turning over the ball alot more.

Or Defensive Efficiency was 47th last year. Even given, our current defensive numbers, I'll take this years team, in the way it can shoot, take care of the ball, and dare I say rebound... much better than last years' team.

All you need to know is Uconn had a top ten defense last year. Ours is sub 200. No comparison, we won't make it out of the first weekend if we make it at all.

...And Beat Wisconsin (another final 4 team) by 3. Why I don't think your original post is all that crazy. Any top 30 team, CAN get hot, and given the right matchups get to the final four. --or-- can collapse and not get invited to any tournaments.

We shall see.

You get it! Anything can happen for a team that can get hot and go on a run. I remember the "84" team that got hot in the tournament and made it to the Elite 8 when nobody expected much of that team. I also remember my STL Cardinals finished 2nd in the Central by 6 games and made the playoffs as a Wild card team in 2011. They got hot during the last part of the year and won it all! The same thing happened in 2006 for the Cards. I'm just saying I have a feeling about this years IU team. I guess that's why they call us FANS!
