Okay, most of you will laugh at this, but here goes:
I have a picture of John Pont hanging in my office...at least I did until recently. In the black & white Associated Press photo, Coach Pont is closing his umbrella in Indianapolis before he boards the Continental flight that took the Hoosiers to Southern California for the 1967 Rose Bowl. It is the one IU football-related photo on my wall. It has been a reminder of the heights our program once achieved and could someday achieve again.
One recent morning I came into my office and found that fine framed photo of Coach Pont on the floor. It had somehow fallen in the night. The frame was busted and the photo slightly mangled. I was sad. Then, it hit me. This mishap was in fact a sign! Fate was telling me that Coach Pont's 9 wins in the 1966 season was going to be surpassed and that IU was going to the Rose Bowl again! At least that is the way I am choosing to interpret it.
Anyway, Go IU Football! Rose Bowl 2016!!
