IU @ Indiana State: IU takes advantage of ISU errors in 9-4 win...

It's Wiggins, Taylor, Dickerson, Brenczewski (DH), Hanley, Stadler, Malamazian, Cerny, and Moore in the batting order. Moore is at 2B with Oliver sitting out, while Malamazian is at 3B with Pyne out of the lineup again.

It's 70 with the wind not quite as strong as they first forecasted with it being between 5 and 10 mph.

T1st:

Wiggins led off by striking out looking. Taylor singled to put a runner on with one out.

Taylor advanced to 2B on a WP and then advanced to 3B on another WP.

Dickerson with an infield single scored Taylor and there was a runner on 1st and one out.

Brenczewski walked on a 3-1 count to put runners a 1st and 2nd and one out.

Hanley singled to score Dickerson with Brenczewski taking 3rd and runners on the corners with one out.

Stadler walked on a full count to load the bases and one out.

Malamazian hit into a DP which was challenged by Mercer and the call was upheld to retire the side. ISU is in the top ten among D1 teams in DPs so far this season.

B1st:

LHP Deron Swanson, transfer out of Saint Francis (IN), sees his first action of the season and has been handed a 2-run cushion to work with.

Swanson got off to a good start to his IU career by back-to-back Ks for two outs. He then gave up a single to ISU's best hitter (.375). Another K ended the inning and Swanson got all three outs on Ks.

T2nd:

Cerny led off and he lined out. Moore grounded out and we were back to the top of the order in Wiggins.

Wiggins Kd swinging and IU went down in order.

B2nd:

Swanson faced the 5 thru 7 hitters and he walked the leadoff hitter on a full count. The runner was moved over to 2nd on a SAC bunt with one out.

A K got the 2nd out with the runner still at 2nd. A two-out double by a .167 hitter scored a run. A groundout ended the inning.

Taylor led off and IU went down in order to retire the side.

B3rd:

Swanson faced the top of the order and gave up a single to the leadoff hitter. A SAC bunt moved the runner to 2nd with one out. A pop up to 3b got the 2nd out. A K ended the inning,

T4th:

It was the 5 thru 7 hitters up with Hanley leadng off. Hanley Kd and IU went down in order yet again and that DP ball in the 1st seemed to take something out of the hitters and they can't do anything at the plate right now.

B4th:

RHP Will Eldridge replaced Swanson and he got the leadoff hitter on a groundout. He then gave up a walk on a 3-1 count. Another walk on a full count chased Eldridge with RHP Pete Haas coming in with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out.

Haas got the 2nd out at 3B on a FC which put runners on 1st and 2nd. A K ended the inning.

T5th:

Cerny led off and IU went down in order yet again. IU has gone down in order four strt innings.

B5th:

Haas gave up a leadoff homer to tie the game at 2-2, and then put them down in order to end the inning.

T6th:

Taylor led off and grounded out. After four straight innings of going down in order, Dickerson singled to put a man on.

Brenczewski flied out for the 2nd out. Stadler doubled to score Dickerson.

Denny reached on a single and took 2nd on an error. Cerny was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases with two outs.

With two errors in the inning, IU was able to score five runs to make it 7-2 with Taylor making the last out to retire the side.

B6th:

LHP Brayton Thomas replaced Haas and he hit the leadoff batter in the foot. Thomas then got a K for the first out, but then hit another batter to put two on and one out.

Another K got the 2nd out, and he appears to either getting Ks or hitting batters. A foul pop up ended the inning.

T7th:

Dickerson led off and grounded out. Brenczewski walked and Hanley singled to put runners a 1st and 2nd and ISU went to the bullpen with one out.

Stadler flied out with Brenczewski taking 3rd. Hanley was picked off at 1st to retire the side.

B7th:

It was stretch time with Thomas was back out there to face the top of the order. Thomas hit the leadoff batter, his 3rd hit batter, and that was it for him as Glant came out and made the call to the bullpen with LHP Matthew Bohnert coming in with his early elevated ERA of 10.80.

Bohnert got a pop out to get the first out with the runner still at 1st. He then got a K for two outs, but a single put runners at 1st and 2nd and two outs.

A walk on a full count loaded the bases with two outs and Bohnert is struggling to get that 3rd out.

Another walk on a full count scored a run with the bases still loaded and two outs.

In a surprise, Mercer brought in RHP Gavin Seebold to try and get that out and he got a pop up to end the inning.

Maybe the guys have gotten rid of “the bug” they have been fighting and are healthy.
I don’t have numbers, but they have been “under the weather” for several weeks.

It was the bottom of the order up with Oliver leading off and he has really struggled at the plate this season so far.

Oliver reached on a fielding error, ISU's 3rd error of the game. Cerny popped up for the first out. Moore grounded out for the 2nd out with Oliver reaching 2nd. Wiggins Kd looking to retired the side.

B8th:

Seebold was back out there to face the 8 thru 1 hitters. The leadoff hitter tripled and he then got a K for the first out.

A groundout scored the run with two outs and no one on. A pop up ended the inning.

ISU brought in LHP Zac Laird with an ERA of 1.59 in 5.2 IP and Taylor leading off for IU.

Taylor walked on a 3-1 count and then Dickerson tripled to score him. Brenczewski Kd swinging.

Hanley scored Dickerson on a SAC fly and Stadler Kd to retire the side with the score at 9-4.

B9th:

Seebold was out there to close it out and he faced the 3 thru 5 hitters. The leadoff hitter reached on a single to CF. A flyout got the first out with the runner holding at 1st. A FC got the runner at 2nd for two outs and a runner at 1st.

A K ended the game.

Anytime you beat the Trees, it’s a good win. I’ve never quite figured out why they are traditionally good.
