IU a 3-seed in the Knoxville Regional...

In Carl James' final analysis at iubase.com that came out just past midnight last night, he pointed out that there were only two bid stealers coming out of the conference tourneys that ended yesterday. Like a lot of us, he was negative toward IU getting in before the final conference tourney results along with other factors suggested that IU just might get in.

Cincinnati, which was in the first four out, just might be wondering what might have happened if their game at IU wasn't canceled because of weather. Would a win against IU head-to-head have made a difference? Maybe and maybe not considering the other factors that were involved.

We play at 1 pm Friday on ESPN plus. The Nebraska series brought out the sharp contrast in starting pitching staffs. The Cornhuskers had five good starters, while the last two seasons we only seem to have one.

And you know what? That’s total BS and unacceptable. I know we had some injuries, but damn, next man up and all that stuff. I feel like our coaches do less with more than just about any team I’ve seen. Reminiscent of the crew that plays in Assembly Hall.

I, as well as others, certainly thought our pitching staff would be better than it was despite the loss of
Sinnard, and actually the team ERA did improve in B1G games with the staff ranked 4th in conference games only at the end of the season. At least we didn't end up like Iowa which had a weekend rotation that was ranked by some analysts as the best rotation in the country. They ended up with a team ERA that was ranked 5th in the conference overall and in conference games only. We also need to remember that we had some good pitching performances that went for naught because our highly rated offense didn't show up, and it was often against pitchers with so-so numbers.

Iowa and IU were considered a couple notches better than the rest of the conference going into the season. Iowa didn't make the Field of 64, and we got in by the skin of our teeth, so it's an easy call that both teams underperformed based on the preseason expectations.

Added: I forgot to mention that Iowa's pitching coach was shown the door. I'm guessing that Rick Heller gave him a little bit of a nudge.

@UIBaseball
pitching coach Sean McGrath is leaving the #Hawkeyes program after two seasons, @d1baseball has learned. McGrath had one of the more talented pitching staffs in the country this past season, but Iowa failed to reach the NCAA tournament.

Iowa would gladly trade places with us.

What region is Evansville in? Too lazy to look up…
They travel all the way out to Greenville NC as a 4-seed and they stole a bid out of the MVC.

Indiana State and Illinois get to experience the hospitality of the UK in Lexington. Hope they have a better experience there than what we did and the accommodations are much better.

ISU looked like they were going to be a host at one time. I guess losing to SIU and Evansville cost them the gig. I hope they can lay it on the Wildcats.

From reading all the back and forth on ‘x’ and others. I think we need to thank our lucky stars our AD is in the committee. We got in, but it was really ugly. BUT, everyone’s 0-0 and with a little bit of magic and a few things go our way, you never know!! Us getting in could be crazier than us getting to a super!!! Here’s to hoping.

Absolutely. I think it was on a D1Baseball podcast in which they gave their thoughts on the tourney and some of the storylines involving the selection process, and they said that ISU's loss in the MVC tournament championship game, in all likelihood gave the final hosting site to Greenville NC and host East Carolina which had the final overall 16-seed. Ironically, Evansville which likely gave the hosting site to Greenville with their win over ISU, ended up at the Greenville Regional.

I believe there was a point being brought out by some people that all four of the final seeds in the selection process had representatives on the committee. The protocol for that is when a school is discussed, and the school has a representative on the committee, that representative had to leave the room, and they couldn't vote on anything concerning their school. Some believe there was still some bartering going on despite the protocols involved. There seems to be a conspiracy theory on just about everything nowadays.

I usually don’t fall for that, but we live in an upside world where morals and ethics are often left at the front door.
