I think they'll eventually have to vacate their win, much like UL. Self is under a massive microscope and when he can't do what he does they won't protect him, it just takes a while
This is a good point, very true. There is no grey area anymore. It’s coming down to NIL, fit and culture. NIL will be a bigger piece than a bunch of us want to admit. I don’t care if Wisconsin, Purdue etc… claim to not support NIL. It will hurt or help them.
Most of you have no idea the complexity of this. Very few things are black and white. It’s not a pass/fail or cheater/clean issue. It’s more complicated than most realize.
The bottom line is Self is an outstanding coach. The consistency he’s maintained is unmatched in the modern era. And obviously the title won’t be vacated that’s absurd.
The title being vacated is a very real possibility and it should be.Complex? You mean complex like a federal trial involving bribery, money laundering, and wire fraud? Thanks for the breakdown, Nancy Grace.
Self is a great coach but he has earned himself a little asterisk for most college basketball fans. Dude was a malfunctioning wire tap away from doing actual time in a federal prison. Hard to root for that.
Programs often push out coaches if and when the NCAA signals that doing so might result in a less severe finding (and resultant punishment). We did this with Sampson months after we caught him once again breaking the rules. LSU booted Wade almost instantaneously when the NCAA “formalized” their NOA against the program. Zona slow walked Sean Miller’s demand for a contract renewal by first delaying discussion, then publicly saying there wasn’t support for it among their Regents, and finally firing him. UL threw Pitino over the side when it was apparent that the NCAA, at a minimum, would demand it anyway. KU even did it in football, booting both Les Miles and the AD, Jeff Long, when the NCAA showed up. Not sure what happens with Self, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if he’s coached his last game at KU.Complex? I don't remember, were any of the players Sampson called illegally still there when IU got hammered? Obviously the coach wasn't.Also, Emmert was pretty clear in that he's not fond of punishing today's players, for the sins of previous players.
Yep, good points for sure, but these are pretty serious charges and it is a bit hypocritical for the NCAA to allow a program with this level of rot to stand as a crowned champion.Unlikely. Vacating wins generally involves playing an ineligible player. The five infractions under investigation do not involve any current players, so there would be no ineligible players here even if KU is found guilty on all five counts. So unless they've got additional violations that they haven't yet publicized, this year's team, and championship, is safe.
Also, Emmert was pretty clear in that he's not fond of punishing today's players, for the sins of previous players. So any penalties handed to to Kansas would likely be aimed at Bill Self or staff, not the team. See the NC State wrist slap over their two violations. Self maybe gets a suspension for a bit. Big deal. He's not even 60 years old yet. Even if they suspended him for a year, he'll be back with a lot of years left on his career. Kansas would wait.
He may be a good coach but so is Sampson. To me he is still a scumbag with five level 1 violations hanging over his head. At most schools that gets you fired on the spot but not at win at all costs Kansas. As far as I am concerend if the allegations are true self should be handed a five year show clause but we all know that will never happen. Most of you have no idea the complexity of this. In this case, we hammered ourselves.I don't remember, were any of the players Sampson called illegally still there when IU got hammered? Obviously the coach wasn't.

The more i think about this the more I think this is right. I disagree but think that is what will happen. Cal had indelible players in his vacated wins as did Keady during the "Three Cheat"We didn't vacate any wins. That's the only way a title would be vacated, is if there were ineligible players involved. The NCAA isn't going to vacate games/championships not involving ineligible players just because they're pissed. That's not how it works.
