It’s Cignetti….

We got a guy who spent 4 years watching and helping Saban build Bama into a power (2007-2010). Was the recruiting coordinator and WR coach at Bama.

He then took that experience watching how one of the best college coaches of all time did it for 4 years, and went to several different places and had success.

His first stop was fixing a program at IUP where his dad was a legend, and his father's replacement went 1-6 in conference. He went 12-2 his second year and won PSAC Coach of the Year (2012).

He then jumped to Elon and inherited a team that had 6 straight losing seasons. He won CAA Coach of the Year (2017) and took them to the playoffs twice (they hadn't been the prior 8 years). He beat James Madison ending their 22 game CAA winning streak, which caused JMU to hire him.

He got the JMU job and maintained their high level of success at the FCS level, then transitioned to FBS and won Sun Belt Coach of the Year (2023).

This is a head coach. Not a recruiter, not a coordinator, a head coach. Neither of our last 2 hires had even been head coaches past the high school level.

Congrats from a Rutgers fan. I think you made the right choice, provided he can successfully navigate IU’s stringent academic requirements. We face that challenge too.
