Is this legal?

This is nothing more than a modern day rehash of King Henri IV wishing even the poorest peasant to have a chicken in their Sunday cook pot and the New York World advertisement in 1928 promising much of the same, which the Democrat nominee for POTUS railed against in many a campaign stop yet Hoover got elected. At the end of the day, no matter who we hitch our wagon to, it's bread and circuses...period. This is but another in a long line of Weapons of Mass Appeasement and/or Hysteria deployed by both sides to entice, scare or motivate the masses under the guise that there is a problem that they and only they can ameliorate.

Dems loved their billionaires until some turned republicans. Zuckerberg Beyoncé soros. Celebs. Hypocrisy

Again, it doesn't matter unless someone decides to bring charges. Fat chance that will happen.
I don’t disagree, Mark. I was responding to Guy’s comment that what Musk is doing “should” be illegal. It likely already is.

Again, the people in the House who have enabled this mess need to be thrown out in the midterms.

I have a constitutional view of how government should work. And while the programs I mentioned can be debated as serving the greater good, the people who implemented them knew full well they were buying votes.

How do LBJ's quotes prove your point regarding Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and food stamps?

Because LBJ passed Medicaid and Medicare and made large swaths of the country much more government dependent.

For anyone that isn’t clued in: IT IS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS JOB TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY OR PROVIDE FOR YOUR RETIREMENT.

You need to manage these priorities on your own like an adult.

I think you're confused by two different things. And there is some debate over actually attributing those quotes to LBJ.

I’m not conflating anything. Whether Elon holds a raffle or Democrats run on more money and services coming back to you, both are trying to cynically buy voters.

Those quotes are absolutely valid.

Who do you think it would hurt most if Medicaid was drastically pared down? And who do you think those people voted for in the last presidential election?

You are confused about those quotes and why they were supposedly said. Do you think that he was referring to Medicaid and Medicare?

Of course he was. The difference between you and me is I don’t care who the cancellation of of Medicare and Medicaid affects.

It’s wrongheaded policy.

I think the difference between you and me is that I know those supposed quotes were made in reference to the Civil Rights Act.

But hey, you’re on a roll. You do you.

For someone with little worldly experience you talk a big game.

I don’t really care Mark.

My game is sound and if you want to argue it on the merits you can.

There was a time in my youth when I thought much like you. Then I found myself taking stock of those around me and how their situations were different than mine, and saw that the social contract requires that we take into account how those of lesser means may need some help. Today, I do care about the effects a cancellation of Medicare and/or Medicaid might have. With all their shortcomings, those programs go a long way toward keeping people healthy, alive, and out of poverty.
