And a 49 point loss to a 7-5 Auburn team.
Are you familiar with the injuries Purdue was dealing with in that game? Regardless of their record, Auburn is Auburn.

What did Painter do in the NCAA's? When was the last time PU brought in Burger Boys in back to back years? When was the last time the top rated recruits from anywhere, including freaking Indiana, gave Painter the time of day?
I think it is funny that you think Painter could possibly produce the same results as Bo Ryan and are trying to justify Painter sucking at recruiting. Did you know that Bo Ryan went to an Elite 8 in his fourth year at Wisconsin, never finished below 4th in the Big Ten, and never missed the NCAA's at Wisconsin? Yeah, Painter hasn't come close to those results, not to mention the back-to-back Final Four appearances.Honest question for you. Did you think bo ryan was terrible until his back to back final 4's?
Because your recruiting argument would have held true for bo, and he didn't make a final 4 until year 13 with wisconsin, so I'm genuinely curious.
I don't really care for the most part. I just think you're kind of beligerant in quite a funny way really.
auburn is auburn. i guess what you are trying to say is even an auburn team having a lousy year is still way out of purdue's league when they are having their best season. Are you familiar with the injuries Purdue was dealing with in that game? Regardless of their record, Auburn is Auburn.

Trust me when I say that IU has seen its fair share of SEC or other opponents in bowl games that leave you saying: “I cannot believe that team was only 6 or 7 wins!”
Florida State - 1986 All-American Bowl. They had Deion Sanders as a frosh who looked like an All American Senior.
Tennessee and Auburn - Peach Bowls. They were heads and shoulders above IU in talent and those were actually close games.
Utah - Foster Farms. How does an 8-win regular season, PAC 12 team get matched up against a 6-6 opponent?
Virginia Tech - the beginning of the Frank Beamer era. I didn’t even know much about Virginia Tech at the time. Some fans were still referring to them as VMI. I though we’d cruise.
They went on after that game to begin stringing together multiple double-digit win seasons and play Alabama for the national championship ( in the days befor a playoff and writers in the AP picked the winner).
What injuries? All their main guys started with exception of Neal, who was injured in the Bucket game.
You would fit in well on our basketball board where the “injuries cause us to play soft” or “ wait till he gets his guys.”
All cop-outs. Although the injury situation to a basketball team carries a bit more weight in an argument when 50% of the roster is out.
What’s LOL about playing SEC and historically successful ACC teams in a bowl game? I was trying to support your cause, dummy. With or without injuries, it’s a pipe dream to think you would have come within 30 points of the team from the SEC you played.
Big Ten teams run up against these southern schools in post season and realize the gap.
I mean...your team just gave up over 50 points in a single half of football to an SEC team that was on a different level than anything Purdue could put on the field.
Your injuries had nothing, zero, nada to do with making that game competitive. You could have had every single player well-rested and 110% and it wouldn’t have mattered.
Are you dense or something?
I think it’s funny how much more money IU spends on their basketball program to just get beat down over and over.I think it is funny that you think Painter could possibly produce the same results as Bo Ryan and are trying to justify Painter sucking at recruiting. Yeah … why are IU fans boasting about Crean making a Final Four when he didn't do it at IU? You don't get to count that.
Crean … Painter … Archie … all mediocre.
IU hasn't been an elite hoops program since the early '90s; PU hasn't been a national powerhouse (if it ever was one) since the Depression Era.
Y'all make a FF (or, heck, an Elite Eight!) one of these decades and we'll talk.
so coaching with your job on the line makes you coach harder or better? which is it?I thought you were trying to say sonething aling the lines of “Well IU never got blown out in its Bowl games when it played the SEC”
Anyhow, Purdue’s defense, its Achillies Heel to begin with, was crippled by injuries. Neal was by far our most important player on defense, we had a back DE filling in for him.
Cornel Jones, one of our best inside linebacker played injured.
Jacob and Brennan Thieneman both injured, both key players in the secondary.
Kenneth Major, our best CB, out.
We were matching up 2 stars against 4/5 stars accross the board.
Of course on top of that you had Gus Mahlzon coaching with his job on the line....
Had Purdue been close to 100%, we would not have been embarrassed like that.
Yeah. To be honest I'm a Purdue lurker. but this is year one of Angel Escobedo as the head coach of your wrestling team and he'sgot them performing way better than Goldman did. He is probably one of the top 5 Indiana high school wrestlers of all time and definitely one of the best at IU. I coach wrestling in indiana and he sends stuff out to indiana HS coaches all the time. Making a huge push to keep local talent in state and bring in crowds for dual meets. Turning a wrestling program around probably takes longer than fb or bb but I'm afraid Angel is the man to do it.are you sure about that?
that would be cool. i know they did not win a single big ten meet last year and i think they aren't doing much better this year. i did watch a video on escobedo that was interesting. perhaps he can bring you back from the dark sideYeah. I went to an iu camp in hs and he was my coach but I'm not turning anytime soon. I do know iu WAXED Maryland a couple weeks ago and they're probably better than Michigan state (conference doormat most years) and maybe Rutgers this year. One thing about wrestling, you can be 11th in the B1G and still a top 25 teams some years.that would be cool. i know they did not win a single big ten meet last year and i think they aren't doing much better this year. i did watch a video on escobedo that was interesting. perhaps he can bring you back from the dark side
He also has a kid from Columbus East taking a rs year and 2 more from east committed this year. They're both legit, especially Nick South. Biggest 170 pounder I've ever seen.that would be cool. i know they did not win a single big ten meet last year and i think they aren't doing much better this year. i did watch a video on escobedo that was interesting. perhaps he can bring you back from the dark side
