Is it now fair to call Indiana a football school?

I’m beyond disappointed

Lol...another tired worn out label used by fans. The elite schools have high expectations in both and proceed accordingly. To be a “basketball school” also carries the requirement you are actually good at it. Welcome to the modern era of sports. If we we are throwing out labels, then consider that the Big Ten is really known as a “football conference” and the lone black sheep in the mix is the MAC school, IU, pretending to play in the P5.

It’s laughable that IU fans think we have some trademark on the sport of basketball. Michigan, MSU strive for and achieve balance in both. Oh, and their basketball arenas are packed and just as loud.

To be considered a basketball school there are two things that are not mutually exclusive:

1. You are fanatical about it.
2. You are good at it.

Oops....we overlooked #2.

We’re just another school playing basketball. An also-ran.

Dude, PU has kept Painter around for 14 years, and he can neither recruit nor make it past the Sweet 16. PU named its court after a coach that never made it to the Final Four in like 25 years.
But Purdue has much better football and basketball programs than IU. It’s not even close in either sport, and it won’t be anytime soon. They want to win and do something about it. IU just talks about it and does nothing. Well, except lose. To Purdue. A lot.

Bingo. Soccer is relevant almost every year on a national level. BB and FB are now B1G bottom feeders.

Yeah....but...um...soccer doesn’t pay the bills. If we had a 100,000 seat stadium dedicated to soccer and we were packing it each game, then I’m all on board with you.

Around 20 years ago, there were bold proclamations that soccer would overtake American football as the most popular sport in this country. Never materialized in this country. However, It did boost mini van sales dramatically. I’ll give it that.

Painter's resume is not better than Crean's, and he sucks at recruiting. No, PU doesn't have a good basketball program, and PU doesn't have any aspirations beyond beating IU and winning the Big Ten every now and again. PU might as well sit out the NCAA's. Painter has been at PU for 14 years and has never made it past the Sweet 16: he never will, pathetic, should have been fired a long time ago.

Brohm is the highest paid, most over-hyped below .500 coach in the country. That's sure unattainable. IU won like 4 Buckets in a row not too long ago.

Every time an Purdue fan or IU fan claims that either is going to be dominating each other “for the foreseeable future”, it never comes true. The wins go in cycles. It always comes back around and swings the other way. The saddest part is that neither school can maintain any level of consistency in either sport.

They aren’t MSU, thst’s for sure.

Crean - 71-91 conference games
Painter 147-90 conference games
Painter still has won as many Big Ten Championships as Crean has, and Crean has actually been to a Final Four! Crean could actually recruit! Just stop! You've kept a coach around for 14 years that sucks at recruiting and can't make it past the Sweet 16.

LOL! You're still going! If I pat you on the back and tell you that Painter and you are special, will you just go? Neat, Painter sucks at recruiting and can't make it past the Sweet 16, what a great coach and a great program, lol. Even Crean made it to a Final Four, and the guy you named your court after can't even do that?!?

Painter is far superior to both Crean and Miller. He’s far above both, and the stats prove it. And Crean lucked into a final four with Wade at Marquette. He hasn’t come close at IU and pooped the bed when he had a chance. IU is a soccer and swimming school, and the rest of the sports are average at best. Nobody considers it a basketball school, at least not a high major program, and the football team is MAC level. IU gets better basketball recruits and then Painter beats them like a drum. Only delusional fans think recruiting matters more than actual wins. It’s one of the many reasons why IU isn’t considered a basketball school anymore. It’s just a party school with a poor academic reputation that’s easy to get into.

If Crean sucks and has made it to a Final Four, what does that make Painter and Keady? They can't even "luck" into one at this point? Archie has been to an Elite 8 at Dayton: Painter can't even "luck" into one by now?

Painter should have been fired a long time ago: can't recruit, can't get past the Sweet 16. At least IU is trying. Keady set the bar low a long time ago, and PU doesn't have the balls to at least try and raise it. Honestly, this is probably the best PU can do: maybe PU is wise to just accept it.

I honestly, for the life of me, cannot understand how any fan of Boiler basketball endorses Painter. Nice guy and says all the right things but he’s very average. He also didn’t start out with 1 scholarship player so a lot of those loses are front-loaded. The guy has been in the league and won 2 conference championships.

Crean was terrible and accomplished the same in 5 less seasons. What does that say.

How embarrassing for Painter that a brand new coach comes to IU and within a mere year of recruiting lands Mr. Basketball and Painter has targeted the guy for 5 seasons? That speaks volumes. Just a few years back, I know several Boiler friends who were outraged that Matt was trying to leverage that Mizzou opening to strong arm Purdue.

IU Soccer needs to market to the state wide audience. I watched more IU soccer ganes last falm than football. Hard to support football when IU is too cheap to compete.

Hearing Green’s failed drug test is only the tip of the iceberg, and that IU hoops is still the same party program it was under Sampson and Crean. All party, all the time, and no commitment to actually getting better. No wonder it’s considered such a has been program. To have Painter pound your coaches year after year must really sting.

PU is a never has been program. To name your court after a coach that couldn't make a Final Four when Mike Davis and Tom Crean have is pretty sad.

Painter inherited a 7 win team (entire season). By year 3 the entire roster was all Painter recruits.

In year 3 Painter went 15-3 in big ten

Where will Archie be in year 3?

Where is Mr. Basketball leading Indiana this year?

What did Painter do in the NCAA's? When was the last time PU brought in Burger Boys in back to back years? When was the last time the top rated recruits from anywhere, including freaking Indiana, gave Painter the time of day?

When is the next time IU even makes the tournament?

Painter just beats IU all the time. And what kind of IU fan thinks Crean took IU to the Final Four? Did you really not know that he went when he coached Marquette, and that he choked away his only chance to even make the elite 8 at IU, right after he barfed in the BT tournament? Recruits won’t be coming for long now that they see how Miller wasted Romeo, who might as well hang it up and get ready for the draft. Playing for a losing program does nothing for his NBA status, and he’s not getting any coaching right now. Davis must wonder what he got himself into, and Brooks would be crazy to go there and not get coached. Already rumors that Phinisee wants out since Miller has no control of the team. Too bad Knight was too stupid to offer Painter, you might’ve gotten a good coach.

In order to win in NCAA tournament you have to get to NCAA tournament.

Crean 4 NCAA tournaments in 9 years

Painter after this year 11 NCAA tourneys in 14 years.

Archie 0-1 NCAA tournaments at IU.. Can he get them there this year with Burger Boy? Next year?

IU football and Purdue football have a 5-5 record against each other in football the last 10 years. You better get your MAC application ready, dipshit.

IU and Purdue are 16-16 against each other since 2000 on the hardwood.

Are you perhaps high?

I applaud your support but you are in the minority. The sport never fully caught on in America. If you want to go to an all-out frenzied culture for soccer, I suggest you move to Europe.

Tom Crean and Mike Davis have been to Final Fours, and Keady and Painter never have, never will. Painter can't even "luck" into an Elite 8. When was the last time PU landed a recruit like Romeo? Romeo didn't even give Painter the time of day. TJD and Brooks haven't given Painter the time of day. Recruits don't want to play for a coach that can't make it past the Sweet 16 and a crappy program like PU. Phinisee is from Lafayette and would rather play for IU than PU and Painter: that is how unsexy PU and Painter are. Painter wasn't good enough to play for IU.

Neat, Painter can't recruit and can't make it past the Sweet 16. You should be really proud.

Painter just beats IU continually, that’s all. And Birger Boys won’t want to go to IU for long when they realize that they won’t ever get to play in the ncaa tournament.

Phinisee wants out because Archie isn’t helping him get better, something Painter does for his players. And what IU fan doesn’t know that Crean didn’t go to a final four at IU or that knight admitted he messed up by not offering Painter? You haven’t been following your team very long if you don’t know those things.

Rumors that Romeo going to shut it down because Archie hasn’t given him any coaching and that wholesale departures are coming. Do you think you might make the tournament even once in the next 10 years? Will they have to open it to every school for IU to ever get back in it again?

We've got PU fans talking about recruiting, the NCAA's, and how they are good with Painter after 14 years, lol. You're special, here's a pat on the back for you, lol.

Cripple fight! IU hasn't been past the sweet sixteen since 2002. Maybe you guys should go after Painter for head coach instead of going after him for sour grapes.

Yeah … why are IU fans boasting about Crean making a Final Four when he didn't do it at IU? You don't get to count that.

Crean … Painter … Archie … all mediocre.

IU hasn't been an elite hoops program since the early '90s; PU hasn't been a national powerhouse (if it ever was one) since the Depression Era.

Y'all make a FF (or, heck, an Elite Eight!) one of these decades and we'll talk.

Yeah, Painter has beaten IU big effing deal. So has everyone. That doesn’t make Purdue special.

IU simply isn't a Sports School. We think we are. We dress up in candy stripe pants and delude ourselves into thinking we're a relevant force in the arena, and sure we may occasionally have a great season in some random sport that no one cares about, but there's no distinction in that. When it comes to Big Time College Sports, IU isn't a factor. And that's not going to change.

Life will be easier when we accept this.

Is Brohm a below .500 coach? 13-13 over two seasons. Thats remarkable considering Purdue had 9 wins over thepeevious 4 seasons.... This past year included a rare consensus AA freshman and a thorough beat down of OSU...seems remarkable to me.

I'm not boasting or claiming Crean's FF. The fact is that he has been to one and Painter has not.

And a 49 point loss to a 7-5 Auburn team.
