It’s like judging Larry Bird based on his athleticism. His fundamentals were off the charts and it more than made up for his physical weaknesses.
Bird was really athletic in his prime. Esp for a tall tall guy.

Agreed. If he is someone that could be as good as RJ was…no brainer I’d love for any IU coach to have him. I like him anyways though…everything I’ve heard about him, pre injuries, is he’s a great teammate, gym rat, has that competitive “dawg” mindset.Robert Johnson was a pretty darn good player for a couple years. Finished around 22 all time scoring list, well over 1,000 pts? Nothing I've seen, and mostly haven't seen, suggests Newton will ever get near that type of impact. Again, hope I'm wrong and the word was he'd contribute defensively in ways that RJ probably didn't, but he was still a really good player for a couple years.
Never ever hire a coach based on players... I said that some 24 years ago, and it stills proves true today.Players come and go. Some are here for a year. I don't think it makes sense to hire a coach to fit the players you have. Hire a good coach, let him build the roster he wants. From scratch if necessary.
Ivan was never quite the same after his knee injury, as seen in his reduced lateral mobility. Oh, what might have been. With our luck, He'll turn out to be the long lost son of Ivan Renko. The rest of You Old Timers should appreciate the reference.
Suggest you look at some tape of Bird starting his rookie NBA year. He was very athletic, especially for his 6:9 size. He could really run the floor, great hand/eye coordination and had relentless energy. Yea, not a great leaper, but really knew how to use and position his body around the boards.your thinking of tom chambers, bird was never pretty damn athletic
