Interesting. How will this play with some here?

IU has a 2 year window where we should be good to very good. This should be a top 5 (perhaps top 3) B10 team. We should be a top 20 team. Making the NCAA tournament was never in doubt for this team, we are talented, deep and experienced. The only question was where we would be seeded. I have expected a 6 seed or better since before the season started.

next year we could be even better.

this reminds me of the Zeller teams. IU has a very good team, then the following year we were a 1 seed. The problem is that after that everything fell apart.

I am going to enjoy this year and next. It will be interesting to see what happens starting in ‘21-‘22. It’s still early, but lots of questions surrounding that roster.

You say there was no doubt we’d make the tournament, but many of the perpetually negative posters guaranteed we wouldn’t. However, I offered to bet we would with all of them and not a single one accepted.

I liked the article.

But, Gerdis, not sure if I follow what you are saying. Might be that you are saying that you never doubted. OK, that's fine for you.

Many people had doubt that IU would make the tourney this year. I had some doubt but thought that Phin would be healthy much earlier. However, loosing IU's top two scorers and not having anyone that had decent numbers on the front line, coupled with lack of shooters and pathetic FT completions...well, you can see why people had doubt. Not only that but the lack of leadership on court has been very apparent. Brunk was an unknown grad transfer.

I posted that they would be in the NCAAT but that was based upon Phin being at 100% and maybe Smith and/or Green developing. I had watched Archie Miller over here in Dayton. I knew he made teams better...and I stated that their teams got better throughout the year. Better than the sum of the parts...my words.

Last year I was at the make or break game: OSU @ IU. IU didn't really try at home. And OSU wasn't all that good either. After that, how would IU's Archie Miller pull the rabbit out of the hat.

Well, Brunk is what IU needed. TJD is a dream come true. Phin is finally back. Smith makes me smile when he flashes to the rim. Green could and still might if he would let the game come to him. A special tip of the hat to Al Durham for trying to carry this team on his back while Phin recovered...and it is noted that AD has been playing out of position. The others are coming along.

These guys are learning what it takes to win in the B1G. None of them have really seen that.

Archie must have gotten a different hat.

yeah, I’m saying I never had any doubt, and I have been consistent in posting that here.

last year there was no reason for us to miss the tourney. I agree, if we beat osu, we get in. But the only reason we were even in that position was the 12 games where we basically quit/forfeited, whatever you want to call it. I expected us to be better this season, and to play with a sense of purpose (something to prove - a chip on our shoulder).

Right. That slide last year remains etched in some of our memories. it's premature to boast or to act like miller's "getting the job done" as in the article's title. get to the tournament. pile top recruiting class upon top recruiting class and avoid 12 game losing streaks and then we'll say miller's "getting it done." today it's premature.

all that being said, during the mich state game he reacted to something with so much emotion that he looked like a maniacal person. it was great to see. and the effort this last few weeks has been fantastic. for the first time in his tenure i feel like he has the team behind him and we may be on the cusp of really good things ahead.

I have a slightly different take on it. We have a front line that is performing well. We now have our PG who started all of last year operating nearly at 100% and looking better. They won on the road in the B1G, albeit to a team that is not likely to make it into the NCAAT, but IU has 2 games in a row when it really counts. They toughed out a couple of games that would have been losses last year. Defense is on most of the game.

The article didn't say he got it done. That would mean we did well the whole season and into the NCAAT.

IU is now tied for 3rd in the B1G! And the projections say we are likely to be in the NCAAT. The article says that Archie is getting it done. He is. And the team is.

That may be semantics, and I apologize for it. Actually, I think that the difference really isn't Archie getting it done. It is Brunk and his toughness and leadership...and having Phin back. All that is paramount to this team. An added bonus is that the others are developing and really trying to play the whole game.

Wait until end of the season before we praise Archie
Too late. The exremes have no middle ground. He is either the worst coach in the league or big ten coach of the year. This current week he is the big ten coach of the year. Next week who knows

Our guards are not that good. I think Green has the highest per at around 18. Plus we have no idea who is going to come to play on what night which will cost us some games.

If Rob can step up and give us a steady, quality starting guard that will be the difference between us being a solid top 25 team and a top 40ish team.

He hasn't been able to string together multiple good games.

That's our Achilles heel.

Who has called him the "big ten coach of the year"? Please link to anyone saying that.

Come on dude, I don't think I have seen anyone state either one of your extremes. The negative ones will say that he is in the bottom of BT coaches and on the other side, I have seen no one pronounce him BT coach of the year.

I know that hyperbole is the internets stock in trade but it really doesn't help the dialogue.

He will be let go if he misses tourney again
That’s not happening. As long as IU regularly finds itself in the top half of the Big 10 and has a chance to make the tournament most years, AM will be at IU as long as he likes.

Most of the top teams in the country have questions about their roster that far out too. Particularly in the one and done era, most top players are gone within a year or two.

Looking at the rest of the BIG, who doesn't have questions about 21-22?
