Could Freddie McSwain be the fifth member of the Indiana recruiting class? There looks to be an excellent chance the 6-foot-6, 220-pound junior college forward will indeed join Curtis Jones, Grant Gelon, De’Ron Davis and Devonte Green.

Without even having visited Indiana he has put the Hoosiers into his final two with Kansas State and set up a decision date only four days after he returns from his IU official. That official trip begins on Monday and can’t exceed 48 hours. He’ll make his announcement Sunday at 4:30 pm from Neosho County Community College.

Kansas State may not be at the level Indiana is right now but can’t be discounted. The Wildcats have hosted McSwain twice already and he’s developed a good relationship with the players there. His father played alongside KSU associate head coach Chris Lowery when both were at Southern Illinois.

McSwain seems to be in the vein of Troy Williams and OG Anunoby. A three who can play some four.

Where does the scholarship come from for McSwain? The most likely avenue right now may be Troy Williams leaving for the NBA but plenty of time for something to shake out.

Indianapolis Cathedral guard Eron Gordon remains uncommitted and told our Jeff Rabjohns last night that Missouri, Marquette and Seton Hall are the three schools he's talking to the most right now.

Gordon along with De’Ron Davis and Curtis Jones are all in Louisville for the Derby Festival Classic All-Star game. That tips tonight at Freedom Hall at 7 pm ET. Davis has a wrist injury and may not be able to participate.

Ticket Information

While there may not be an announcement as was the case with Thomas Bryant, all sourced info indicates now that OG Anunoby will follow the lead of his fellow freshman and not even test the waters of the NBA draft this year.

Indiana and Michigan State have been mentioned as the two schools in position to receive Australian William McDowell-White’s final two official visits. Been some buzz that he might be a five-star guy but that has died down some after he struggled in the Nike Hoop Summit game last week. Playing on the World team, McDowell-White was 2-for-8 from the floor with two assists and six turnovers as the USA team won easily, 101-67. The Aussie did play nearly 25 minutes, the second highest on the team.

Kansas is the latest school to show interest in Romeo Langford from New Albany. The sophomore is also beginning to show up in the top five in some national rankings. Indiana, Louisville, Purdue, Kentucky, UCLA, Duke, North Carolina and Ohio State among the schools that have already been on his watch.

Peegs.com will see Langford later today in Dallas against some of the better talent in the country. It will be interesting because he’s begun to convince some longtime basketball people that he could be the best perimeter player from Indiana since Oscar Robertson. Or at least has that kind of long term potential. That’s saying a whole lot and probably premature since he’s still fairly unproven against national elite level talent. He’ll be in Dallas competing with the EG10 or Eric Gordon All-Stars in the first of two spring adidas Gauntlet circuit stops.

Langford will be playing up a class in the 17 & under division so it should be interesting to see if he more than holds his own this weekend.

College coaches will be there as well so it will the first of two 48-hour evaluation periods this month. We expect Indiana’s strongest presence to be in New York as both Under Armour and Nike are holding circuit stops there this weekend. The main Nike guys there include IU commit Al Durham Jr. (Southern Stampede), big man Mohamed Bamba (PSA Cardinals), point guard Darius Garland (St. Louis Eagles) and power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (Spiece Indy Heat). Under Armour will have the older Indy Hoosiers team (Kris Wilkes, Paul Scruggs, Zach Gunn) and a younger team with Keion Brooks and Damezi Anderson among others of note.

Malik Williams will also be in the NYC area this weekend playing for Legit Basketball in an Elevate Hoops event (non-shoe circuit).

Justin Smith will also be at the Nike event. He’ll be there with the Mac Irvin Fire team. We mention him as he drew a lot of praise for his play in Milwaukee this month at the Swish & Dish event. Also because the 6-foot-7 small forward has made multiple trips to Indiana and is a guy many here may be sleeping on as a serious candidate to join Al Durham Jr. in the class. Smith is from Lincolnshire Stevenson in Illinois, the same program that sent Jalen Brunson to Villanova.

Basketball scheduling note - no surprise but doesn’t look like Indiana will be part of the Big Ten-Big East challenge known as the Gavitt Games. This only includes eight games per year and with 14 Big Ten teams, not many Big Ten schools will participate consecutive years. Indiana hosted Creighton last year in the inaugural event.

The match-ups as tweeted by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports:

Villanova at Purdue
Providence at Ohio State
Northwestern at Butler
Rutgers at DePaul
Wisconsin at Creighton
Maryland at Georgetown
Seton Hall at Iowa
St. John’s at Minnesota

Speaking of Providence, former Hoosier Emmitt Holt is taking an official visit to the Big East school this weekend. Also seriously considering Tennessee but a lot of buzz that Emmitt will commit to Providence if this visit goes well this weekend.

Indiana’s spring football game is tonight at 7 p.m. ET. The main drama thus far has been the quarterback question. Not really answered yet and it wasn’t exactly expected to be with a true newcomer in juco Richard Lagow and Zander Diamont out with an injury. Danny Cameron has drawn praise at the position helped in large part by his strong grasp of the offense. Lagow has displayed his strong arm and potential but needs more time to get comfortable with the system.

Other drama is the injury to RB/WR Camion Patrick. He underwent knee surgery on Wednesday and coach Wilson is expected to comment on it after the spring game tonight. Earlier this week they were unsure on the damage to the knee. Patrick sat out last season but was widely considered to be a major impact addition to the offense this year.

A switch to a 4-2-5 alignment has been the hot topic on the defensive side under new coordinator Tom Allen. Despite some quick linebackers (ie, Tegray Scales), the extra DB spot won’t be going to a LB moving to the backfield. Former LBs Greg Gooch, Nile Sykes and Omari Stringer among those moved to DL to shore up depth there.

There will be a handful of prospects that have confirmed to Peegs.com they will be at IU this evening for the spring game. There is a post on the Premium FB Board that talks about who will be visiting today.
