Indiana will hire DeVries……

If this is the hire...I fully expect there will be "more" coming...including a GM, who will run NIL, scouting, etc... And that DeVries will be encouraged to bring in whatever staff he sees fit...including going and seeking out the brightest young minds available for offense, defense, and recruiting purposes.

The DeVries hire, by itself, isn't at IU's level...or shouldn't be. But Dolson could make it so pretty quickly, by leap frogging most of college basketball, and restructuring the entire program to be at the forefront of the new college bball world. Maybe he wanted to do that, and DeVries was just the right level of good basketball coach/mind, and not proven enough or just is open enough for it.
Great another team approach that worked so well with Woodson. Not sold.

He's got the same record as freaking Woodson this year, and he's never been past the round of 64! WTF! SD hires this guy over BM? Par for the course. SD better pray this guy is the 2nd coming, I don't care if he hired Cig or not.

19-13, 10-10 in conference. We already had that! He has a worse resume than Archie!
They must have gotten turned down by 37 coaches.

You know…..at the end of the day, after looking at this guys resume, seeing his career at Drake and some of the guys he coached under, I’m on board with this and will get behind him.
You don’t get a .732 winning % by accident. He continued the success there. He followed Dana Altman and McDermott.
He’s down to earth. He’s a farm boy who knows the value of work ethic. Younger brother was an All-American DE at Iowa.
Lives and breathes his job. He is personable and his teams play hard.
He wasn’t my first choice but could have done a helluva lot worse (Brownell).

I had him as one of my top 3 after all the pipe dream coaches went up in smoke.

I'm much more bullish on this than the rest here but I guess I didn't have my heart dead set on McCollum or a wife beater. He turned WVU around in one year and should have made the tournament. Season looked worse than it was because their best player, Tucker Devries, went down early but he beat Gonzaga and Arizona with Tucker and then Kansas and Iowa State without him. Had the #6 transfer class last year and will be bringing over Tucker for next season. He was a name I mentioned early and so I had some expectations feelers would be put out to him. Not sure if he's bringing us championships but I'd be surprised if IU doesn't reach a Sweet 16 in the time period we gave Archie and Woodson

Man, the cynicism is rampant. Let’s be positive and supportive here. We’re due. Hell, we’re overdue. We’ve been punished enough.

I need this to be the real deal. I don’t have that many years left and I want that sixth banner.
You’re livin that Georgia lake life. You’ve got more years than you know.
There’s something wrong with this program. Too many resources. Too much money. Too much tradition. A state that loves basketball. Too many advantages. To hire a guy who should be looking at northwestern or minny. After seven years at wvu and a 75 percent winning percentage a final four and an elite 8 THEN on iu’s radar.

He isn’t young and just got a job at a high major and missed the tourney. Same record as the guy we fired. He has one ncaa tourney win.

Something is off

IU "should" have made the NCAAT as well. What a resume bullet point.

I’d rather be positive about this. I’d bet there were many similar reactions when Cignetti was hired, mainly along the lines of WTF, who the hell is this? James Madison?

Now that Dolson has been able to do this without the interference of Buckner and the BOT, I’m looking for Dolson to have struck the goldmine again. No Glass/Archie and no Buckner/Woodson. That’s winning.

Cig went 11-2 at the big boy level. DD went 19-13 and missed the NCAAT in a watered down Big 12. I Googled it.

Was anybody really hiring this guy before the NCAAT ended? Why not wait and see how other coaches do?

Appreciate the optimism. The difference in the hire is that it feels the same but iu football is at the bottom of the football world and iu out of 300 schools the top. The targets should be markedly different

Dusty May inherited 8 wins and actually made the GD tourney. And took a mid major to a FF. This dude is DM lite.
Could be but…..
Devries inherited a team that was 9-23 last year and improved them by 10 wins. He also beat Gonzaga in the Bahamas (any IU fans stick around to watch that game personally?). Lost to Louisville in OT by
9. The same team and tourney we got smoked by a gazillion. Beat Arizona by 7. Beat Kansas at Kansas. Beat #2 Iowa State at the time by 7. Lost very close games to both BYU and on the road in OT at Baylor (in OT).

That’s closer to competitive than anything Woody touched in 4 years. We would have gotten smoked in every single contest.

Didn't Woodrow beat Tennessee?

I'm incredibly surprised you picked out one part of my response so that you could whine harder. You are under no obligation to support DeVries, Dolson, or Indiana basketball. Feel free to throw on some gold and black
