Baseball Plays Nebraska to 1-1 Draw
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Baseball (14-11-2, 3-2-1) recorded its second tie of the season on Sunday, as the Hoosiers drew with the Nebraska Cornhuskers by a score of 1-1. Indiana's other tie came at Florida Atlantic on Feb. 28.
Junior Logan Sowers recorded three hits in the game, including two doubles, while also driving in a run. The Hoosiers recorded eight hits in the contest, as senior Craig Dedelow, sophomore Ryan Fineman, freshman Matt Gorski, sophomore Matt Lloyd and sophomore Luke Miller each recorded a hit.
Sophomore Pauly Milto made his first start of the season for IU, going 6.1 innings, allowing just one run and seven hits while striking out five. Indiana had a strong bullpen outing, as senior Austin Foote threw a scoreless frame and Lloyd allowed just a hit in 3.2 innings of relief.
The Cornhuskers struck first in top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Jake Meyers, Scott Schrieber and Ben Miller delivered three consecutive singles. Miller's single drove in Meyers to make it a 1-0 game.
Trailing 1-0, Indiana rallied in the bottom half of the inning. With one out, Miller laced a single to the opposite field and then advanced to third when Lloyd successfully singled on a hit and run to give the Hoosiers runners on the corners. From there, Sowers doubled to deep centerfield to knot the contest up at one.
Nebraska's Luke Roskam led off the third with a triple to left field that got lost in the sun. Milto struck out the next batter and Foote forced a groundout to short to nail the runner at home. Foote then struck out Nebraska's leadoff batter to escape the jam.
In the top of the eighth, the Cornhuskers got one on with a base hit with one out. Lloyd came in to pitch and forced a double play to keep the game knotted up at one.
The Hoosiers had runners in scoring position in the ninth and 10th innings, but were unable to capitalize.
Indiana is next in action this Tuesday as it hosts Ball State at 6:05 p.m.
