and announcing that you were just fired from your job. Your phone would be ringing off the hook from lawyers who want to represent you.

Everyone is told only to give dates of employment if someone calls looking for a reference.

If Darren Handy had a truck run over over his foot CTA would say he had a lower leg injury..

But when he is kicked off the team it is the lead story of the press conference. Only in athletic departments.....

Maybe his NIL deal had a waiver.

Dumb. I had a colleague who was fired from his job earlier this winter for misconduct. It was front-page news and the lead story on the local evening tv news on all four major networks.

Also, HIPAA makes it pretty risky to provide specific details of injuries without direct consent ( if we're talking about lawsuits, this would be much more perilous than details of a dismissal).

Every single day during the season, and most days in the off-season, a coach somewhere is announcing that a player has been dismissed. If you're digging for shit to sling at Tom Allen, you need to try harder.

You don't think people saw the roster and noticed his name missing and weren't gonna ask why he was missing from it? The dude was gonna be a important piece on the defense at BULL.

It was smart to get out in front of it and squash any rumors that may have started, especially with the way the program is being looked at now.

Important to be out front of most issues. Sounds like they gave the kid multiple chances.
Btw, how do do send a question to a specific poster?

You use to be able to dm posters, but I've heard it's been acting up lately.

I am not taking a shot at Tom Allen. Rather the notion that athletic departments have different privacy standards about personal problems versus injuries.

I apologize if I misinterpreted. It seems to me that IU has decided to follow pretty strict protocol with regard to public injury reporting. It appears that the reports about injuries in all sports are pretty generic. My guess is that other schools have decided to make a greater effort to get individual releases to provide more detail, whereas IU has decided that the specific details of an injury aren't really the public's business anyway. Just provide the basic nature and let the athlete decide whether or not to share. I know some get frustrated at the lack of detail, but it doesn't bother me personally.
