I Think We Can All Agree On This

I only answer my phone if I know who's calling (unless I'm in an unusually good mood).

Telemarketers should be prohibited from “ghosting” phone numbers. That way I can block the real people who are invading my privacy.

Or we can just pass a law that lets us shoot them. I’d be OK with that too.
Fire ant hills and molasses sound more appropriate for those assholes.

The phone companies surely know the real phone numbers of all the callers using their phone systems. The telemarketers are their customers too. How could the phone companies bill the telemarketers for using their services if they didn't know the callers' true numbers?

And, there can be no doubt the phone companies have the technical ability to block callers that use fake numbers. How do I know this? Simple. The phone companies offer to do this for you if you pay the phone company an extra fee for blocking a telemarketer that is making a call that's inherently deceptive in the first place.

So, I think it's fair to say the phone companies are actually helping unscrupulous telemarketers make these anonymous calls.
