I applaud the offense. I applaud the player conduct off the field. I applaud the team attitude. But I have to admit I never would have guessed that the Mallory defensive era would have been followed by an equally horrific era - the Knorr era. For all of CKW's time here they have been continually plugging in freshman in the secondary and blaming all problems on youth. Pulling the plug on Coach Knorr was the right move. Up to now Coach Wilson has successfully distanced himself from the defensive woes. But I think the time has come for him to take some ownership. He needs to learn a lot more about what is happening on the other side of the ball. I will keep my fingers crossed.
Once you start a rebuild, you are always gonna be "young" for 4-5 years.
(Unless you are Michigan or Ahia State) you won't get the top quality recruits in your first couple of recruiting classes. You will get better - but best ... Yet.
If you commit to playing the best man (which every coach does) you will be playing the young guys. If there are injuries, you'll play young guys longer.
Once you get to a point you are recruiting real good players who still need to sit behind regulars, you are where you want to be.
It's even harder if some guys leave rather than sit.
But we have passed the first "fail point." We have maintained momentum through the "first wave".
Next year, Wilson's early fruits are gone, and we still have decent returning numbers and no "lost" recruiting class. He have more good secondary players in Spting camp than ever before. We still some size for a line. And we have a bus load of LB "bandit" guys who can either bulk up to DE or DT.
And a new hard charger to teach/lead 'em.
IMO were still moving in the right direction.
At a cost, yes.
"Welcome to Big Boy football"
Again
Sic 'em.
