I-465 Speed limit

I have to admit if I’m speeding by say 10-15mph and I’m in the far left and passing cars I’m not moving over to the right so some asshole speeding by an extra 15mph can get past me. To me that’s different than some driving slow in the passing lane not going past anyone. And when I look in my mirror they look so damn pissed off. F’em.
Have to disagree here. If you’re in the high-speed lane and passing cars, no problem. But after passing vehicles in the middle or slow lane you should get over to allow faster cars to get through. I really don’t want to pass you on the right if I can avoid it. But it’s frustrating when so many camp out in the high-speed lane and won’t move over. A lot of truckers pull this crap on I-75, and I travel a lot between Cincinnati and Atlanta, so I see this bull all the time. If I’m passing you on the right I have some anxiety building up as I don’t know if you’re finally going to get over as you should just as I’m coming up on your right rear. Throw tinted windows and lack of turn signals in the mix and you’re asking for a bad outcome.

If you’re passing, that’s OK. If not, keep right except to pass.

Well... I'll sit out there for awhile Until I see someone approaching from the rear who's clearly gaining on me and then I'll move over...

I figure the potential 20mph over speeding ticket is just a safety tax so I can maintain a safe distance away from all the idiots out there...

I've seen stuff that would make your hair curl...

I once watched some dumb female in an SUV become so engaged by what she was doing inside her vehicle that she floated up across two lanes (going thru a right hand 3 lane curve) and almost under a tractors trailer. Fortunately for her she had an extended side mirror and crushed it against the side of the trailer before going under it... Which alerted her to dive back to the inside of the turn...

I got a little too close for comfort view of this because I was in the middle lane behind them with three solid lanes of traffic bringing up the rear...

Had she gone all the way under that thing who knows what kind of carnage would have ensued... Had My Attention!

I just do my best to stay away from everyone if the option is there...

Thank God normalcy was reintroduced to the country after shitlibs ran rampant from 2020-2024...

Oh, I agree with part of that. If there’s traffic to my right and I’m passing them I’m not going to give up my spot on the left just to appease the guy going 90mph. But once the traffic to my left clears up and I’m no longer passing anyone I’ll move over. It’s the effers that expect you to move over even when you’re already passing slow cars to your right.

I70 between Indy and Dayton is the worst. And it's dangerous as hell.

Another glorious benefit of my semi-retired existence. No clients, bosses, prospects or co-workers blowing up my mobile all hours of the day and night and I no longer have to travel the interstate.

Ohio drivers tailgate, drive slow in the passing lane and don’t use turn signals. Other than that they pretty much suck. ;)
On I70 there is a lot of tailgating, but what's worse is semi's just won't get in the right lane. They're all on governors and if one is set 1/2 mile faster than the other one, they'll take 10 miles to pass. Then regular traffic lines up behind them and cars start trying to pass on the right.

I drive a lot from Charlotte to Indy and I consider that the most dangerous part of the trip. If I'm going north of Indy, I take US35 and go up through Muncie and take the state roads.

35 and I 69 are the same north of Muncie.

This is my biggest beef, driving through Tennessee on I-75.

Maybe around Marion. I used to drive to Ft. Wayne a lot and it's a lot better than I70, which is pretty narrow in spots. Not to mention the constant construction.

I’ve always found OSP to be super aggressive. 62 in a 55 and those dudes would nail you. Awful.
When I'm driving through Ohio on US35 or the interstate, I always set my speed at 9 miles over the speed limit. Never had a problem (knock on wood).

The southern part south of Chilicothe is a nice 4 lane highway, but 60mph. State police feast on that, but I set my cruise on 69 and not had a problem.

Google maps has a feature where you can report accidents, slowdowns, and police speed traps. That actually helps a lot.

We put ours 5 miles over the speed limit. One of my Deacons in Pennsylvania worked for PennDot and told me, "Pastor, they won't pull you over for 5 miles over."

Charlotte is way worse than Indy when it comes to weaving in and out of traffic. They all think they're NASCAR drivers
My kids got me the driving experience at Charlotte Speedway a few years ago. After driving 155mph around the track for a few laps, the drive home on I85 turned me into Earnhardt also..

That covers a lot of area. lol

Bible Baptist? Southern Baptist? American Baptist?

I was baptized Souther Baptist when we lived in Albaquerque when I was 10. I was raised in the Brethren church and identify as that, but I still remember those Baptist services. lol

OMG, I 85 is a racetrack. The deadliest stretch of highway is that section of I85 north of Charlotte and I take it several times a week to get my grandkids or go to thw airport.

There is a law we need, trucks with governors need a "push to pass" button like Indy and F1. It can only be used once every so many minutes and only lasts for a minute or so, but that would be a big help. It is so annoying to be behind a semi doing 65.01 passing a series of semis going 65.00.

Since Charlotte is sort of close, are you familiar with Asheville? That's our fall vacation spot, if you have any recommendations. We are using Asheville as our base and making day trips, so fun outside of immediate Asheville would work. We are even going as far as Congaree in a day trip.

That's actually a great idea - push to pass. I like it.

Tell me you didn’t go up there to drink a beer with Eli?

Ashville is a couple hours away, but we've been there. Of course, the Vanderbilt mansion is a must, so just plan on the whole day and take any extra tours if they have them.

We went to some places a year before the hurricane, which wiped out places like the town of Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. I read where some Amish came down from Pennsylvania and are rebuilding the town of Chimney Rock. Lake Lure may finally be cleaned up. I'd recommend going to see the actual mountain, but check to make sure tours are still open.

Hendersonville is a town east of Ashville that is pretty nice and close to Blowing Rock. Some winerys around there and Grandfather Mountain.

I'm not an expert in the area - just gone in for day trips. It depends on what you like to do, too. Lots of hiking along the Appalachian Trail and beautiful drives. If you go Northwest of Ashville, little mountain towns like HIckory are scenic. That whole NC-Tenn-Virginia area has mountain villages. One place that I haven't been to yet is LIttle Switzerland, NC, so that's a place I want to visit.

Appalachian State University is in Boone, NC, and it's beautiful.

If you're into Revolutionary War history, King's Mountain is about 1 1/4 east of Ashville and Cowpens, which is in SC, is about the same.

Ashville was really impacted by Helene, but I think it's mostly recovered. Too many good restaurants and shops to mention. And I can't remember their names anyway. I'm sure there are websites or even Facebook sites that can give good recommendations.

If you're going all the way to Congaree, you might want to stop in Greeneville, SC. I've never been, but heard it's beautiful. Also, it's probably about the same distance away from Ashville, but Helen, GA, is a place I highly recommend. It's like a German village and in the mountain area of Georgia. The Chattahoochee river runs through it and we tubed down it. Good fun.

Not a big fan of Charlotte, but there are a lot of historical and scenic places within pretty easy driving distance. We're going to the Outer Banks in June, but it's about a 6 hour drive.
