Hypocritical to support Beard now but never Alford?

No! Maybe he felt like he did wrong, which I’m not saying he didn’t do wrong. I’m saying things led up to it and to crucify a man for 1 incident is just ridiculous. If it was an ongoing thing I would understand. All the high and mighty jackasses are just pathetic.
Yeah, but this isn't a court of law. Perception is reality, and I'm guessing most people believe her initial claims. Ole Miss hid behind her recantation and the dropped charges. I doubt IU will. Sure, most fans would be thrilled if Beard were the guy, but there would certainly be some backlash. And, if it happened again, it would be horrible optics.
That he didn't fight his dismissal for cause isn't an admission he committed a felony or that his actions weren't driven by self defense.
His contract with Texas allowed for cause termination for “Any conduct (a) that the University administration reasonably determines is clearly unbecoming to a Head Coach and reflects poorly on the University, the Program, or The University of Texas System; or (b) resulting in a criminal charge being brought against Head Coach involving a felony, or any crime involving theft, dishonesty, or moral turpitude.”
So even though the charges were dropped, which might eliminate (b), what went on that night would most likely fit clause (a). Moreover, even if he might win, why drag his daughters and fiance and himself through a lawsuit? That harm might mean far more to him than whatever he might recover.
I understand your opinion that Beard's past actions disqualify him. A part of me agrees with you, as much as I wanted him as our coach last time around. And it makes a lot of sense for the BoT and Pres to steer clear here for their own sake. But it'd be nice if everyone would stop pretending as if they know exactly what went on that night because of their own prejudices. Many have stated here that once an abuser, always an abuser, for example. But there has never been a hint of a similar allegation against Beard in his other 51 years of life--seems like a relevant fact.
There are some alums who stopped donating to basketball at Ol Miss because of that hire. They weren’t thrilled at all.
Think how “thrilled” those former donors will be when he’s announced as IU’s next head coach.
I feel like someone needs to stand up and slam their hands on the table, and end this dumb speculation on Beard. Like a father during a big Thanksgiving table argument.
1. Whether it was a crime or not...he got drunk, got into a fight with a woman, and the police were called. I talk to my kids all the time about not putting themselves in to bad situations. If you're not at a party, you can't get in trouble for the things that happen at parties. In his case, if you're not drinking, and not in that situation, you won't get into an altercation... People on this forum talk, all the time, about incidents with players drinking, partying, "3 game suspensions", and reference Woodson, or Crean's, or whoevers lack of leadership. Do I need to explain that one out further....??
2. We currently have a female President. Shouldn't matter, but it does. She'd get eviscerated.
3. We have our own scandals to sort through currently. You think our legal counsel, the decision makers, really any one will want to add that gasoline to an already burning fire?
He's a good coach. He'd be a good fit basketball wise. I can't fathom its even being considered by Dolson though.

Don't doubt it, but how do you know? You think they had more NIL donations when Beard was hired, or now? If he were to get an E8 or F4 this year? I'm not sure why the anti-Beard crowd has to reach so deep to try and justify not hiring him. It's fine to say you think he abused his fiance and you don't want him considered and don't believe IU would. That's the issue, not his drinking, not how he treated some fan, nor that someone at Ole Miss withheld a donation. Besides, I felt like he was Coyle's top choice (and maybe still is) and now he's saying he doesn't think he'll be considered. I would guess he's heard something that confirms that, so I think it's a moot issue.

How did Alford have a more successful coaching record? At that point, Alford had made 4 NCAA Tournaments. Beard has already made 5 NCAA Tournaments, including 1 Final Four.
Yeah, right now, he has about as good of a chance of being named coach here as I do.
From things I've heard, this administration isn't even gonna look at him.
All I know is there will be the same issues no matter where he ends up. Why limit yourself on funds just because?
My brother in law is an Ol Miss alum. That’s exactly what’s going on. Beard is going to have limited opportunities because of his history. Facts.
You didn't answer my question, because we both know the answer: Ole Miss bball NIL is undoubtedly higher now than before Beard. But again, I think it's a non-starter, and think it sounds like they'll pass on Beard. Dolson will have vetted and built NIL support for whoever the new coach is and I would expect they'll at least have the bank that CMW did.
But who says it’s because of beard? I know it’s limited because people won’t give because of him. We don’t have a control to prove NIL is higher. Nobody is digging deal to find or see why he’s at Ol Miss and not at Michigan, Louisville, ucla etc… he wasn’t a candidate for various reasons. It’s not hard to understand imho.
He had reasonably good stints while at Manchester, SW Missouri State, and New Mexico. He won two BTT titles for Iowa, before the PP accusations. How many has IU ever won? He’s not dog meat like his detractors choose to believe.
