Huge loss and choke job by IU

That bad turnover really cost us. Glad we made a game of it, but should have won.
Agreed. A terrible disappointment but things certainly look better than we all thought a few weeks ago. Hunter is beginning to "blossom" and Rob is healthy.........

It was a painful loss after such a disciplined comeback.

appropriate I must say Ordy. You trashed this thread long ago Ace. But, hey...keep obsessing about me lol
Rent free and on the east coast. Nice job trashing this thread, by the way. If only you hadn’t lied . . . Every time I catch you doing it, which is often, it’s necessary to call you out on it. Maybe someday you’ll learn your lesson. Maybe.

But, if they play with poise and intelligence, they win going away. They didn’t display either trait, unfortunately. Hopefully, we learn from this.
Losers have been saying, "hopefully we learn from this" since time immortal. Losers have never learned. Winners alway have.

Terrible terrible loss. Up 7 with 2:36 and nothing but jump shots. Wow
Six point lead with 68 seconds left to play.
Maryland 7 - IU 0
It seems like IU should have forced their way inside for at least some free throw attempts. Durham jacked up a quick three and Green launched a long one...the kind of shot everyone knew was off alignment as soon as a trajectory was possible.

Anyone who ever competed in anything knows each game / exam / presentation is a potential learning experience, and Knight certainly knew there were lessons in both wins and losses. Only losers don’t know that.

Should've won that game for sure. Hunters turnover was a killer, but I'm very encouraged by the effort the last 2 games.
It doesn't tick me off as bad if we lose, but put in the effort!

Thank you. Very wise words.

This was kind of the typical play we’ve seen from this team and program for years. Play well and inspired one game and then collapse in the next. IU was once expected to compete regularly for the conference champ but we’ve settled in nicely right where we belong given our roster and coaching: a perennial 6th or 7th place team.

Middle of the pack team. Nothing more, nothing less.

You nailed it, that's my bitch! We've seen it for like 12 years now and then 1 moderately successful, but ultimately disappointing and not expectations season, buys another 5 years of misery and inconsistency at least, so long if you have a decent class on the way. Could you imagine what would be happening at the other historic bluebloods if they had to endure this for as long as we have … it wouldn't be happening beyond this spring!

I get what you're saying. I'm just pissed we lost. You comment just struck me similar to the one guy's comment about "we just need to move on from this one". I wonder if Archie will be replaying film of the last 4 min. of the game with the team or will he just "move on".

Thought the coaching was outstanding today. Last two times we had the ball we had point blank chances that did not go in. You guys probably never coached anything,.
Good coaching will have Durham running Assembly Hall stairwells for launching that errant 3 pt shot 5 seconds into the shot clock when we needed to work the clock to our advantage.

That might happen. Would rather he ran them right after the game?

I think he’ll want to do both . . . never forget the missed opportunity that was squandered with sloppy, selfish play at the end while also focusing on the reality that the only way to lose control of a game was to first have it, which came via stretches of outstanding play on both ends of the floor. You can’t surrender what you don’t have, and there are positives that can be gleaned from that. Similarly, other teams aren’t going to just go paws up, and Maryland kept playing until IU blinked.

I think Miller and the coaches will look inward to see what they could’ve done to slow the late melt down, and a good chunk of that will focus on shot clock recognition. IU played late like the ball was a pinless grenade, and that can’t happen. Maryland should’ve been chasing and fouling and, instead, we set the table for them to quickly obliterate the lead. Players play, but this nearly happened against ND and the coaches should’ve recognized our vulnerabilities. They seemed to get caught up in the moment and probably regret that they didn’t intervene quicker and more effectively.

We’ll see how tough or fragile they are going forward.

Slow learners perhaps. Maybe it takes something a little extra to get their undivided attention.

Yes - I thought that the dumb, hero “street ball” antics were going away with Crean.
Obviously not. Terrible management in the last 2 mins.

The “Turge” is a terrible coach and even he knew what to do at the end.

Kudos to Archie for getting the team back in it but just flushed it all down the crapper at the end.

38 minutes clawing and fighting back and then 2 minutes of Keystone Cops.

8 AM tomorrow morning would probably be as effective, if not given the chance to have coffee first.
How many times have we heard an announcer say, "I don't think that was the shot they were looking for"?

Still ticks me off to lose a game we should have won. But thats just me.

Naw, it's not just you but me, too. I'll be stewing about it until Wednesday night. I remember some guy here predicting if we win the Michigan State game we lose the Maryland game. We certainly don't want too much excitement in one season. Just when we start feeling better about ourselves, thinking we might be on a roll...

You have the stench of vickiebear on you.
The give away was the random thread about the traffic.
You are losing any respect you had here, I was at the game And will b at the Purdue game, that’s what happens when you make money you get to buy IU seasons tickets! Loser

you hit it on the head... been waiting for someone to mention the Al Durham shot around the 3:36 mark. we run shot clock and score or get rebound times runs off. we jack a 3 pointer with like 5 seconds off the shot clock they rebound go down and bang a 3 and it is a 6 point swing. that was the start. I don't blame Archie at all on the game. we are starting to learn different parts of the game and getting healthy. I hated seeing Hunter lose the ball. I would like to see replay on two plays. I think Hunter was fouled and there might have been a goal tending.

I’m so over Al Durham. The guy really does care, but he does so very little. If that was Yogi Ferrell or James Blackmon taking that quick 3, I get it. Durham is not a shooter. He thinks he is. But he isn’t. Outside of Phinisee, the guards on this team are horrible. Franklin will be eventually be good but he’s a freshman. Green and Durham will be welcome graduations from a talent standpoint.

Lot of truth here - which is why this loss stings.

Biggest culprit down the stretch was Green. On his 3 he launched from the right side there was still 15 seconds left on the shot clock, plenty of time to work for a better shot. His drive for our last points I actually liked; he attacked the basket under control and gets a chance at scoring, getting fouled or passing to a teammate.

Lot to like, but need to put this one behind us.

The final play was the right one and that shot goes in 80% of the time. The issue was the previous set of possessions where some poor decisions were made and yes...I watched the last six minutes this AM and calls should have been made for fouls and travel but they weren't. Don't take poor shots and don't turn the ball over and IU wins by six.

Aloha has commanded ships and binky spends his life trolling. It's sad.
And you spend an inordinate amount of your time whining about other posters, which does you no favors. Stop bitching and talk basketball. Or don’t. But just be quiet if you can’t do those things. Thank you.

If that was Yogi Ferrell or James Blackmon taking that quick 3, I get it.
Let's just say Steve Alford would have never even thought about taking that quick 3 pt. shot in that given situation of this game. It's a coaching discipline thing and he was a better three point shooter than Ferrell or Blackmon. Alford made 53% of his 3 pt attempts his senior year (first year for three pt. line). Yogi was 42 % his senior season while Blackmon was 42.3% his final year.

First Al Durham-Steve Alford comparison ever.

Pointing you out to be a fool isn't whining. It's simply pointing you out to be a fool.. Do you have anymore glaringly bad assumptions, Clete?

Aren’t you wasting valuable Fritos and couch time by posting here? You’re dismissed.

First Al Durham-Steve Alford comparison ever.
I wasn't comparing the two in regard to shooting ability. Obviously, they're miles apart. I was replying to the guy who said if Blackmon or Ferrell had taken that 3 pt. attempt so early in the shot clock they would be okay with it (because they're decent shooters, based upon shooting percentages. My point was that even if it was Steve Alford attempting it (a better shooter than the other two), one shouldn't be "okay with it". despite Alford being better than those two. He wouldn't have attempted the shot because he was disciplined under Knight. Disciplined players don't take that shot attempt in such hurried fashion so late in the game, holding a lead like we had. At this point of the season, it was disappointing to see Durham and Green chucking it up so quickly, giving Maryland more time to make baskets. Apparently Archie hasn't gotten their attention, yet. Knight would have nipped it in the bud by the end of November.
