How is pork chop coach of the year over Beard

Probably because he turned a jacked up, 6-5 team into co-B1G champs. Plus an appearance in the Elite 8.

As opposed to a team that trashed Purdue in the tournament on their way to the elite 8 in 2018 and lost 4 main rotation players (maybe starters) then turned around made the final 4 this year while winning the big 12 and breaking the Kansas string of 13 or so big 12 titles in a row. I don't really care who gets the award and Painter did fine but I don't think it should have been close much less Beard not winning it.

I guess if TT would of sucked in November and December then maybe Beard would have had a chance. LOL

and Beard turned his into a Final Four participant. You get that Beard lost four starters also and both their number 1 and 2 option. Painter absolutely had a great year and one generally good enough for COY, but not when compared to Beard, sorry.

Is that the NABC Purdue Chapter, West Lafayette based NABC, the National Association of Bovine Coeds?

I’ve never been one for making fun of someone else’s looks on social media, even if it is at the expense of our arch rivals. At least her folks are trying to help her out by straightening her teeth. Kids at school are cruel enough without big kid “adults” doing the same thing. Next thing you know, someone may have your unsolicited photo posted on social media for mockery.

and yet....IU still has Lil Archie.

How does that impact that fact that chris Beard has walked circles around Painter during his short career including this season. Plkease try to stay focused and on topic. Beside crushing Purdue last year in the tournament, wasn't he the coach at Ark. Little Rock when they beat Purdue in the NCAA tourney a couple of years earlier?

Because his peers (coaches) voted him the best. No greater honor can any man earn than to be recognized by his peers.
I imagine politics came in to play here, as in every other self-appointed organization’s year end awards. I wouldn’t be surprised if the many camera shots of an aged Gene Keady pulling for his protege helped influence the voters. Painter is Gene’s appointed boy, you know. Maybe PU’s gut-wrenching defeat to keep Matt and Gene from realizing their dream of an elusive Final Four helped to influence their vote as a means, subconsciously or otherwise, to ease their pain. Maybe they know Painter has paid his dues longer than Beard or is just a nicer guy than Beard at their annual meetings.

I do agree than Beard seemed more worthy, if for no other reason than he has to recruit in Lubbock, Tx, a real hell-hole of a boring town. I never understood why they don’t vote until the tourney is over. It must be that everyone moves on afterwards and they think people are paying closer attention the week before the grand finale. Everyone craves attention-it gives them a feeling of self worth.

The "short career" of Beard may be the reason Porkchop got the award. They may have rewarded him for his longevity and being close at some other point.

It could also be that the coaches recognized that Pee U platyd way above their talent level. I believe Edwards being a high volume scorer got him the award, but he did bring them out of a period of poor play in time to have a good year.

Plus they didn't have any STDs this year! Or at least any new breakouts.

Sure, TTU beat PU last year after Haas went down and ALRU beat PU in the NCAA a few years ago. That happens. UVA as a #1 seed lost to a #16 seed last year, it happens. That's just as relevant.

Considering the discussion seems to be revolving around who should have be named NABC COY this year, both coaches have compelling arguments.

I can say PU had a heck of a run to the E8 after not even expecting to make the NCAA in Dec and TTU has had a heck of a run to the FF after losing a significant number of key players (just like PU).

My assertion is that IU's Lil Archie isn't even in the discussion this year. Will he be next year, nobody knows. If IU makes the NCAA (and that's a big if), maybe he'll be in the conversation. Making the NIT (Not In Tournament) won't get him in the conversation.

So, in a thread debating whether Painter or Beard deserved the COY award, you make the brilliant assertion that CAM is not in the conversation this year, but may or may not be next year?

That's some good stuff.

Yeah, that is mean.

Yeah, that is mean.
I got to thinking, I'm just as guilty...well, maybe not just as since this one involved an innocent child, but guilty in that I've poked fun at the physical appearances of others. I used to laugh at the male Purdue cheerleader that was in the background of the post game arm-flex photo of Will Sheehey. The dude looked like the Purdue Pete clown of a mascot. Also, I've laughed here at Richard Gere and Coach K looking like rats personified. Oh, and then there were the ears of Obama I laughed at in retaliation to mocking of the "Orange Pig" and his stupid looking comb-over. Public figures have to expect some of that. Kids just trying to figure out their position in life don't need the oppression, the mockery...the bullying, if it's your mantra.

I see where Bob Knight was in French Lick yesterday being wined and dined before his Center Grove speech tonight. They showed him posing for photos at their Pete Dye Golf Course, which really has some spectacular views if you haven't ever driven up there.

ALRU beating PU is one of the bracket upsets (12 over 5 that is popular) that folks look for. Add to the history of Purdue tournament meltdowns and it really was quite easy to pick. It was not like a 16 beating a 1.

Virginia losing to a 16 seed was an upset that had never happened before and probably won't again for quite some time. Yet you throw it out there like it was some common upset that just kinda happens. Maybe PU can overachieve again and land a 1 seed so that process can be sped up this time.
