The recourse to summary judgment at the conclusion of every game is far more revealing about IU's fanbase than its BB Players. Any fool imagining that one or two games defines a Team or Player's Season is just that, as are those imagining from afar they have an innate understanding re: exactly what actually happened during a game and why.
That being said, what I imagine I learned or believe after last night's Quad One road win against a well-coached team and quality opponent that in fact played very well:
IU could be very good this Season. Not there yet by any means and needed to rely on Trayce and Xavier last night to pull out the win, but the pieces are there even if they're rough and far from seamlessly meshing. Perhaps the best thing about last night's win (apart from it coming despite several IU Players having been sick and missing practice the last few days) is that it was such a near thing that the Team is unlikely to feel satisfied or proud or full of themselves and will move ahead knowing that there's lots of work to do. Woodson and Co. sure aren't going to give them a 'pass' and the game-tape and is going to make for some solid teaching and tons to work on in practice. In essence, they''re going to be that much more motivated knowing a similar performance againt UNC, KU and AZ isn't going to cut it.
Think IU will handle UNC at home, less sure about KU at their place and especially AZ in Vegas if only because AZ is big, deep and has serious size on the frontline that we saw last night can pose a problem for IU. Meanwhile, look for IU to absolutely shred Miami, OH tomorrow as everyone not named Trayce Jackson-Davis looks to atone for their sins, real or imagined.
