Hoosier Hysterics Podcast

Did you think Todd Leary was trustworthy?

I'm not comparing the two, but truthfully, unless you know Brian Evans on a personal level, your judgement of him is clouded by the fact that he played at IU and was good and therefore people think 'trustworthy'.
Same as Mike Woodson? What about Mike Woodson’s resume warranted Mike Woodson to be hired the IU basketball coach?

Sounds like they are still involved with women's basketball and volleyball.
I’m sure that is the case, hate to say it but minor league sports needs gimmicks so do those sports. IU men’s basketball isn’t the minors tho, that shtick is not the norm for a power 4 school.

In the business world, things like this happen all the time. It "works" just fine when things are rolling along well. The "official boss" leaves the star employee alone while he's performing. But when the performance falls, and more and more key people get fed up with it, all of a sudden the defacto mentor or leader (Buckner in this case), starts to distance themselves a little bit, and the normal chain of command is reestablished.

I'd bet my lunch money that Woodson is now having meetings with Dolson.
There ain’t no way Bigfoot is meeting with Dolson.

No wonder he request the IU fans to “chill”. F’ng A, I would be chill also sitting on the end of the bench making $400k. WTF is this university doing. Pay the football squad. There seems to be a pulse there, the bball program has been & continues to be a circus.
I wonder how much of Leals "400K" is money that's divied up just because he's on the team? I have a strong suspicion Leal is getting a disproportionate amount of money because he's a Mr Basketball, from Bloomington, with a business in Bloomington area, etc...

Just an off the cuff guess, but the going rate to be a scholarship player at IU is probably in the 1-200K range. Leal is generating the rest on his own, because of who he is, his past, and his specific marketability in Southern Indiana.

This is a pretty good reminder that while the NIL game has changed a fair bit since it originally came to be, there's still a significant portion of it that's based on a person's marketability...not necessarily how good a basketball player they are.

Yeah, but Evans didn't really share much of his personal experience or knowledge. Mostly they would share their info and ask him his thoughts. About the only thing I recall him commenting on was Braylon Mullins recruitment and CMW's lack of visibility at an AAU event in Carmel. He did say that Scott Dolson was calling him when Woody was hired to try and sell him on how it would work and that Woodson doesn't report to SD.
He talked about Thad Matta too. Calbert a little…

My point is... he might not want to be meeting with him, but with his teams continued shitty performance, the protections he's enjoyed are probably evaporating as we speak. He'll start getting "mandatory meeting requests" from Dolson soon, if he hasn't already... Which is where the legal groundwork will be started, and the "social distancing" between he and guys like Buckner, will also start.

That's how high profile firings often take place in the business world, when there's a high profile rogue employee that needs fired. And this is very much a business decision, in many ways.

I don’t mean to pick a fight with you here, so this isnt directed at you. But i find that to be very hard to believe. Just because Brian Evans says so, doesn’t mean it is correct. Also, I have no doubt that Quinn is advising Woody on the side. He may have Woody’s ear, and may even not be listening to Dolson in certain basketball matters. I don’t believe for second that AD Dolson doesn’t have the final say in this. Which is why i’m not buying everything Brian Evans is saying.
You don’t believe that Dolson wanted him fired last year and didn’t have the backing to do so? I thought that was pretty common knowledge here. That Quinn and some backers, and now we know one was Steve Ferguson, gave them tons of money to buy a team he wanted.. I think Dolson has a lot more credibility now . As for reporting to him, that seems something pretty silly for Brian to lie about. What would be the point?

Dolson has definitely build up some cred since Woody was hired and I would guess that he has significantly more power now than he did then.
I would think that Dolson my make an attractive candidate for an open AD job. Somewhere. He's a Hoosier...and his wife is just as solidly Hoosier...so I don't believe it would happen organically from the Dolson camp...but if much of what I may have learned here (CMW direct report to Buckner, Ferguson* involved in retaining and financing Woodson) is true. He has a pretty good story with which to interview...

Totally my opinion. I'm just guessing at why they are doing this now, and wondering if it was prompted by anyone else. And, they aren't all firsthand accounts. Most, I would say were told to them and they're retelling it. I believe most of what they are saying, but I'm more curious about why now?
Because they saw the mess in the Bahamas .

Did they ever actually say Woodson reports to Buckner, or just not to Dolson? Could be the President, which makes more sense than a BOT member who has a term. Plus, I think that was Evans who said that, when he talked with Dolson when he was hired.

I didnt listen to the coaches show but wtf? This is why Woodson is so disconnected and doesn't get it.

Fischer asked Woodson if he senses frustration from the team after going 1-2 in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

"Not at all, Don. I don't think it's – You make that comment sound like we're totally out of it. We're not. We're 5-2 and we still got a lot of basketball left," Woodson said. "Frustration shouldn't be set in. You should be frustrated how we played those two game, but we rebounded, we played well in the Providence game, we brought a win back home. Now we gotta get ready for Sam Houston. I mean, frustration shouldn't be set in. If you are frustrated, then take it out on the court. But no, I don't think that's the case. We got too many games left to play."

I remember when someone said Leal was gonna walk away from the team. I was like are you insane??? No chance he ever makes this money ever again in his life.
On a per game basis the $400,000 is about $13,000 per game and 7 games played so $91,000 thus far. He has played a total of 5 minutes so about $18,000 per minute played. Damn good work if you can get it.

I think you have your priorities out of whack. Woodson is right, and I hope the players are a reflection of this personality.

There are much more important things in life than basketball. The team just got a nice vacation to the Bahamas and they did win a game.

I hope Mike had time to get away for a couple rounds-clear his mind from all this basketball stuff.

Ehhh.....if he truly does go into real estate and does well with it, he could blow $400k out of the water. Even if he never left Bloomington.

I think Evan's comments were about what he was told when Woodson was hired. Things certainly could've changed since then as Dolson has gained experience and seniority and our bball teams performance has been spotty. It wouldn't surprise me at all if things have changed and I assume any AD would want all coaches reporting to them.

Nobody at the university "reports" to an individual BoT member. The President and maybe campus Chancellors report to the Board as a whole. Everyone else ultimately reports to the President.

I've said it before but I think it bears repeating, I think the restructuring of the buyout in Woodson's contract speaks volumes.

To me, and it's obviously just my opinion, Woodson was given the key to the mint. Go out and get what you need to compete next season. Get it right and you're good. If you fail, here's a 1 million percent year retirement for you.

He talked about Thad Matta too. Calbert a little…
I thought he shared a lot. What I found interesting is that he mentioned that he was on various IU text threads and the once-vocal individuals became quiet, and their silence was deafening. Not sure if he was referring to former players or donors.

Seems that many of the folks making comments haven't listened to the podcast. I suggest they do.

And for a bit more entertainment.........................
Shit talking someone on social media and creating rumors that will never be validated, is for emotionally compromised little girls...

I'm not giving disgruntled attention whores with a vendetta clicks they can monetize. Not one thing they said last year turned out to be true and they're just using the recent losses as an excuse to get more attention. They know their target audience ... the malcontent masses, I'm not it .. Lie to me once, I'm done listening to anything after, no second chances.

Attention whores? How much do you think they make from all these clicks? It's a free podcast with a few sponsors. They are passionate fans, just like you. Or are you a UCONN fan, I can't tell.

I haven't been a fan of everything that HH has done in the past, but I also have no reason to believe they'd slander innocent people (besides Woody) just to get some more attention.

And if you actually listened to the podcast, they are very clear with their motives. And I don't blame them, Woody has been a trainwreck since he set foot back on campus 4 years ago. He had his shot, but he is not a good coach and the team's performance in The Bahamas suggests that this year's team won't be any better.

On his most recent radio show he said "A lot of these guys are new, they've played in various places, and everything we're doing is a little bit different than where they played before. So we've just got to continue to build and get guys comfortable in what we're doing."

Do you think he is aware that Louisville turned over their ENTIRE roster in addition to their head coach? Based on the stories I've heard, he probably isn't.

lol ... You're not changing my mind with that drivel. I detest liars and attention whores and nothing you said is objective in any way.

I would agree the winds are changing and I would guess this podcast is an example of that. When I heard it, I had to ask myself: "why now?"? There is really very little new in the stuff they revealed and Evans has been a critic of CMW for awhile. They could have made thi

Because they saw the mess in the Bahamas .

Yup, they're feeding the fire. There wasn't much of a fire to feed over the summer after Woody hauled in his transfers (which is why they probably didn't release this information after the CMW meeting). Now that the pitchforks are out, it's a good time to strike.

I get wanting to avoid those ass clowns, but even if their podcast is pure fiction, it’s undeniably captivating. Judging by the vibe here, it seems like most of the board is part of the malcontent crowd, itching for change.

The malcontents just want smart, competitive basketball. Win games you should, steal a few that you shouldn't and while you may be overmatched at times NEVER get exposed due to lack of effort. The goal should be to make the tourney every year, get to the S16 every few years and build a team capable of making a run consistently, both through recruiting HS players and the transfer portal.

Have you been happy with the Woodson era? Were you happy with the Battle for Atlantis performance? When would it be appropriate to speak up if you have info that could elicit a change? Never?

last time I felt happy about IU ball was late winter 2016, Yogi's senior year.

That video was annoying, listening to this Jake Paul look-alike gave me a migraine.
But hit mute and watch the video, and there are a lot of bad decisions on display. Many that are easily correctable....but should have already been corrected by now.

I have listened to a couple of their podcasts and they have had some good guests and been reasonable in general.

It is difficult to get past the cringe shitshow that Thing One and Thing Two have embarassed us with over the past few years. they really could have been a good product had they not been so awful in the streets.

Anthony Leal making 400k was jawdropping.
It’s circumstantial but it paints the program in a negative light when it’s added up. If half of it is accurate then it’s an embarrassment. I don’t take this a gospel, but it’s fairly damning no matter what people’s opinions are. Like I said, this is the first time I’ve listened to them and I take it with a grain of salt. But they seem to have intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the program. Rube, I am not.

In a circle of non athletes, the former star basketball player gets a large voice. They Vote on lots of things, don't you think many will be like yep Ill go with you on this one?

Obviously, product on the floor speaks volumes for next year.

I get what your saying Cav but damn, it isn't like the other trustees are kids, they are grown ass adults and I would think they would stand up and state their opinions when necessary.!

Is was a good breakdown and you are right, some mistakes that should be correctable. The thing that stood out the most to me was at the 5:45 mark where is shows the 3 point discrepancy. He summarized our offensive philosophy perfectly, Woody is coaching an offense designed in 1980.

To keep things in perspective. Leal has created and developed a lot of this himself and would not be normal for the 9th guy, even at IU.

Leal is and will always be a very sucessful business person.
