You seem to have a great deal of confidence that we will bring in a coach that has a great chance to be very successful.
Simple question: In your opinion how would you rate IU at being easy to win at? Meaning, if IU signs one of the coaches that you are listing, would IU be one of the easiest schools to win at, or one of the tougher ones?
For example, you have Oats and Beard……would they have an easier time winning at the same levels at IU (in your opinion)?
Edit : MAY and Beard
To me, its all relative...winning in college ANYWHERE is hard. There are a ton of good coaches out there, and there are TONS, and TONS, and TONS of talented players.
But relative to the rest of the P4 landscape, I think winning at Indiana is probably a little "easier" than most other places.
-We have a top 5 NIL capacity...coaches basically have a blank check to fill their roster however they see fit.
-Indianapolis is in our back yard...and Indiana HS basketball is still a very fertile feeder system. A good coach in Bloomington, with the NIL capacities we have, has an inherent advantage.
-The B10 isn't quite as deep as the SEC or even B12 right now. So accumulating wins, being near the top of the conference, seems more achievable for a good, top level B10 team right now.
So why hasn't Indiana been able to find a guy that could do it? I think its just an absurd string of bad decisions, and bad luck.
And I think we're finally, in a spot where we have a chance to get a good, smart, college coach, that's proven his program and style will be successful against his peers, and that he'll win a lot of college basketball games. And that he'll have the power of our NIL war chest at his disposal, AND the ability to reshape his roster quickly, like no other, qualified college coach has had at IU.
So...to answer your questions directly... If IU signs one of the coaches off one of my various lists...I believe IU, relative to other P4 schools, would be one of the easier schools to be successful at.
The SEC fellas...give them IU's resources, and a conference that's less deep, and with lesser top end teams, and its fair to say it'd be easier for them to excel at IU than their current schools.
May... he's doing well at Michigan in the B10...a school with lesser NIL capabilities, and more difficult transfer restrictions. Stands to reason it'd be easier for him to excel at IU than at Michigan.
McCollum...he might be competitive in the B10 this year with his Drake roster. They did beat Vandy and KState, and they're 21-2. Give him a couple guys that are even marginally better than a couple of their current guys, by virtue of IU's resources...and I don't think its a reach to think he'd be contending for a B10 title.
