Coastal Carolina Offense breakdown:

They're fun to watch but I'm not convinced we could run that effectively without some significant tweaks due the Incredible speed of most Big Ten Defenses...

I do love option football but for the reasons mentioned above have never embraced the concept of bringing it here...

All that said..., Coastal Carolinas version looks to to be one that you could simply add portions of to a "multiple" Offense and get some positive results...

If TA decides to go with the Coastal Carolina tweak here's the guys we might bring in:

I've been pining for CCU's offense ever since the BYU game last season because I think it would better fit McCulley than a dropback scheme and it would be easier for IU to recruit and develop offensive linemen in that blocking scheme

what lots of people still don't appreciate about Chadwell's offense is how effectively a team can pass from its version of triple option formations. Before their starting QB got hurt, Coastal's passing stats were insane.

Korn is young and relatively inexperienced, but Durkin is a vet. A friend of mine who's a Va Tech alum thinks their AD may already be looking at Chadwell as a possible replacement for Fuente FWIW

If we're going that route we'd best get in there tomorrow with an $$$ offer that at least Korn and Durkin would be nuts to refuse...

Washington is a 2nd Year guy but I included him because his WR's blocking is critical to that type of Offense and they appear to have been doing a good job, plus..., he's a recent pro who would presumably be able to transfer his experience in "the League" to both the practice field and the Recruiting trail...

By the way it was just an oversight that I didn't initially acknowledge that you brought Coastal Carolinas Offense to my attention... (meant to)

I had only watched them once before you mentioned them (on multiple occasions on here),..

So..., Thank You Welshman (for bringing them to our attention)...🍺

They might be just what we need...: an Attacking Offense to go along with an Attacking Defense...

if Allen were to look for new coaches in the off-season I assume he would continue his pattern of going with guys he already knows whenever possible

for example, I wouldn't be surprised if his first feeler/offer for a new OC might be sent to someone like Maurice Harris: https://www.liberty.edu/flames/staff/maurice-harris/

since he and Harris already worked together IIRC at both Arky State and Ole Miss, and Liberty's overall offense is one of the best in the FBS this year (one caveat: Harris is a WR guy, not a QB coach)

if Allen ends up in the market for a WR coach maybe he talks to Coach Creighton about a guy who was a player at Arky State when Allen coached there, RJ Fleming: https://emueagles.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/rj-fleming/1642

OL might be a little trickier as the OL coach Allen was with at USF, Danny Hope (yes, that Danny Hope), has apparently retired and the OL when Allen was at Ole Miss was Matt Luke, who now coaches for Kirby Smart at Georgia. Allen might have to go outside his comfort zone and, for example, maybe go after a guy like Matt Mattox: https://goutsa.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/matt-mattox/1048 or perhaps Nick Tabacca since he's coached at both Butler and Ball State: https://godeacs.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/nick-tabacca/744

if Harris weren't interested in joining Allen's staff as OC, one guy I'd like to see TA go after is UVA's QB coach Jason Beck: https://virginiasports.com/sports/football/roster/season/2021-22/coach/jason-beck/ because UVA's passing and total offense stats are outstanding this season and IIRC he's only making about $300,000

generally when people think of triple option they think of the service academies' systems, but those would be shut down by B1G defenses because they really have no legit passing threat

CCU is a whole different animal--they throw about twice as many passes a game as Navy, Army or Air Force and before their QB got hurt CCU's offense was 3rd in the FBS in avg yds per completion at about 17 yards per pass--in other words, they throw the ball, and they throw it downfield

these guys might qualify as outside his comfort zone:

another guy who might be worth a look for OC is Anthony Tucker: https://utahstateaggies.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/anthony-tucker/573

and his WR coach might be too--Kyle Cefalo: https://utahstateaggies.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/kyle-cefalo/570

one guy who I think would potentially qualify at either WR or QB coach is Clint Trickett: https://herdzone.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/clint-trickett/623

a name that's been mentioned in the past for obvious reasons (he's really more of an OL coach than QB coach but could still be an OC) is Ryan Grubb: https://gobulldogs.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/ryan-grubb/2240

Seth Littrell's name has also been brought up in the event he's let go at UNT. If he's interested in returning to Bloomington and willing to take a 50-60% pay cut (he's currently making $2 Mil IIRC) it might be worth consideration.

And as long as potentially fired coaches are being considered, if Jake Spavital is fired this season, he might be worth a look (currently making $800,000 I think): https://txstatebobcats.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/jake-spavital/1376 but I'd expect Tex State to give him one more year

Some of us mentioned this guy when DeBoer left, Keith Heckendorf: https://astateredwolves.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/keith-heckendorf/705

TA didn't have any connections with Warren before hiring him as DC so I don't necessarily think it has to be someone he's connected to.

no, it doesn’t have to be, but that’s usually been the first place he looks and I don’t expect that to change this time around

I'm not saying these guys wouldn't go but Coastal has money to keep them if they want. They are a bit of an odd program in that they are backed financially by Joe Moglia - the former CEO of TD Ameritrade and former coach of Coastal. He's part of the AD Dept.

I think Chadwell’s system would work better at IU than almost anything else Allen might want to run but I also think it would be too much of a departure from what they’re currently attempting to run for him to be comfortable making the switch

i expect next season’s offense to be fairly similar schematically to this one, even under a new OC
