Haven't heard anything on Kopp. Is he returning??

Stewart's light was fading until Trey turned up injured. Nobody could displace MK though because there just wasn't a player with enough experience and talent. This year can be different. I honestly give Banks a chance as he likes playing hard D. Kopp and PS offered little offense off the dribble. Banks will be harder to guard for sure.

I disagree. He’s very consistent on defense and still drew his defender(couldn’t dig off him). No other player we had did that. He did his job. His problem is he’s easy to guard. When trey subbed in for him he brought a different gear but couldn’t draw his defender. I wish we could merge them together. Does that mean Woody sticks with him? Obviously he’s trying to upgrade at the wing. Offensively it was our weakest spot. Shooting guard wasn’t much better.
Merging them together would be nice. Maybe that’s what Dennis would bring.

Why do people keep saying this? It’s nonsense. Who was more solid at the 3 that could draw defenses?
Our wing defense stunk, period. I
just have a different memory than you regarding Kopp. He got burned on back doors and was slow to cover the perimeter. I remember Caleb Houston of Michigan just killing us in the Hall. Kopp had a couple of games late season where he was ok on D, but we are not going to be a great D with him out their covering athletic wings. Just my opinion.

Lol. JG was a lot worse on inbounds and back doors. Every wing that burned him burned everyone else. JG couldn’t guard a chair at the 3. Yet everyone pencils him in. Kopp guarded at that spot as well as anyone. It’s silly to say otherwise.

why would any team be worried about kopp?
You guys must’ve not watched a game. Woody pulled players for being out of position. Wonder why he didn’t pull Kopp? Wonder why players didn’t help off him? Wonder why they did when Trey was in. It’s laughable when everyone just says…he sucks. Well everyone else must’ve sucked more.

I trust Woody to play the players that need to play... I'm an armchair dude like most of us and when it seems MK can't hit freaking anything when the games are in crunch time, I get as annoyed as anyone. But there's a reason he played a lot more minutes than TB, etc... Woody has some players now. It'll be interesting to see how the minutes are managed next year (not in November or even December but as the conference race starts to heat up in February)

Nobody is saying otherwise.

If my understanding is right, he can't come back if the staff doesn't want him back or replace him with someone else, correct? The decision isn't his to make, or am I wrong?

Kopp was the best we had, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was solid. If he wasn't hitting shots he pretty much provided nothing.
Yeah, let's see what the staff can do with him this summer and then hopefully his minutes are consistent with his production.

correct. presence on the team is never guaranteed... but the scholarship is, I believe. Isn't that still part of Fred's bill of rights??

I agree. Likely a nice guy and I wish I could play ball as well as he.
But I think we have seen his ceiling and I would like to see what our other guys can do.
He’s a great FT shooter who doesn’t have the ability to drive and draw a foul. And unless he’s set and catches a perfectly placed pass, he ain’t much on shooting 3s either.

If Kopp works really hard on his body and strengthens his base and improves his athleticism a little bit, that can help his shooting and his defense.
And certainly he needs to be working on shooting and his handle every day. If he totally commits to the coaching staff off-season plan for him - he can increase his value to the team.
Glad you're not asking for much.

Seems to me he’s had a between-the-ears problem. As the season went along, he’d turn down 3’s and drive or try to stop and pop. He appeared to be afraid to shoot from deep. His foul shooting seemed to be poorer as the season went along too. I think
I recall him missing ft’s on called technicals. Just zero confidence, IMO. Just not sure coaching can help a whole lot here.

For as much as people want to view Kopp as a 3 point specialist, that was never really his MO at NW. This past season was the only year he took more 3's than 2's. Only 45% of his shots at NW were 3's. The pull up 2 was as much a part of his game as was his 3 shot. He wasn't a guy like Stefanovic who took 75% of his career shots from 3.

His shots from inside the arc were the biggest change in his game this year. On a per 40 minute basis, Kopp's 3 attempts only dropped slightly by about 10% from his career average, whereas his 2 attempts dropped by almost 50%. His 3 point% was right at his career average, but his 2 point% dropped by 20%. If anything, he was afraid to take 2s

if you think kopp's any good, you're the one that hasn't watched any games.

No room in or near the lane with Race and TJD down there. It’s THE main problem with our teams offense.

Kopp was good enough to start, can shoot, gave good effort, and has a year with Woody and returning teammates. He’s not exactly at the end of the bench, and though it’s always exciting to get a new player, that player may prove to be no better. Churning players for the sake of change is a loser’s bet. If Kopp returns as it seems he will; good. If he doesn’t, we have enough new and returning talent.
