Haven't heard anything on Kopp. Is he returning??

Hope he's got his degree.

Would much rather see Banks, Reneau, Geronimo, Gunn or (enter name here) on the floor before Kopp. Appreciate the effort last year, but there are better options we need to develop. Time to be movin' on.
He doesn't graduate until Deceember. He will be back.

I don't really mind if he comes back. It appears he's very well liked by the staff, and the team.

I just hope guys like Tamar, Jordan, JHS, etc... are solid enough on both ends to take most of his minutes. And if that's the case, that they do get those minutes, and that Miller has a good attitude about it.

For what Kopp lacks in play making ability, he makes up for in playing team basketball. He’s selfless and wants to win. He’s an old school Indiana-like player. We’re better with him on the team. Hopefully someone beats him out. He wont pout if that happens.

TO city. Poor shooter. Lack of defense. What's to like about his game? Personally,he's probably a great person. On the court, he's bad.

I agree. Likely a nice guy and I wish I could play ball as well as he.
But I think we have seen his ceiling and I would like to see what our other guys can do.

His turnover percentage was 15.7, which is considered average to good. He lacks elite athleticism to guard one on one, but he doesn’t get lost in rotation.

Was interesting to hear Coach Walsh basically saying his shooting woes are all mental. Coaches obviously see these kids everyday and sounds like Bloomington Fire Dept is called everyday he shoots! Maybe next year it’ll translate to games.

He shot 36% from three, which is fine. His two’s were terrible at 34%. He’s not athletic enough to finish after putting it on the floor. Hopefully Banks can win that job.

We can win the B10 with Kopp starting and playing 25 minutes.
We can, and likely will, improve if Kopp returns and plays a similar role and amount of minutes.

A lot of variables at play here. If we change our offense up a little bit, he might get a few more good shot attempts per game. If he's getting 10 decent looks a game, he'd average close to 10 points a game, and probably be fairly efficient doing it.

But when it comes down to winning close games, having a guy on the court that can't win one on one matchups, on either end of the court, will continue to bite us in the butt. If we get Dennis and/or McNeil, I'd play them over Kopp because Dennis will win on defense, and McNeil is better suited to win on offense.

Kopp is solid, but he isn't going to move the needle and contribute to helping us make winning plays to beat good teams.

So no, I don't think we'll win the B10 if he comes back in a similar role.

I thought Kopp was a better shooter at NW, and think he can be here too. I do think there was a mental thing, not only with him, but it affected the entire team, from 3 and the FT line. I'm hoping the freshmen come in with a new fresh, "we can and should win" attitude and the rest of the team feeds off of it. The only guy who I though made strides in shooting was Geronimo who's shot looked much better and he looked more comfortable shooting from 3, but virtually everone else was either what i expected in shooting or a disappointment to some degree.

It depends on the matchups. Some nights he will be a wash and others we will need someone to step up from the bench. I agree he is limited, but his biggest strength is that he doesn’t have much downside night in night out. Again, hopefully someone beats him out.

Although, the top of the BT was nothing special this year, and don't think its going to get any better. So as long as the team can substantially increase production at the 2 spot, winning the BT is definitely in the cards even with Kopp. Making a splash on the national level is another story however

I’d be surprised if he got 10 minutes a game. He can’t defend wings. And he turns the ball over too much for a player with his experience. Too easy to guard. Can’t rebound. And worst of all, he gives up too many three-point opportunities, his specialty, to do stop and pops or drives which he’s poor at. Our young talent needs to play. At least one of Bates, Banks, maybe Gunn, JG, will emerge. Or Dennis. Perhaps Galloway will work like hell on his shooting and ball handling this Summer, and be a big contributor at wing.

Yes he can guard wings. He did all year. H flat shut Michigans wings down in the second half. He’s one of our better position defenders. He’s consistent guarding. Now are you going to put him on the opposite teams best? Absolutely not. The guy who gave up more close out 3s was JG and Race. That’s the worst part of thier games. JG was out of position so many times he was benched.

Kopp was not solid.

Depends on who's on the roster, and if key guys improve...

No Dennis and/or McNeil added to the roster, and not much improvement by Bates and Geronimo...that equals plenty of time still for Kopp.

Dennis and McNeil on the roster, and improvements for Bates and Geronimo...that likely equals close to zero real playing time for Kopp.

I'm sure the final answer will be somewhere in between, assuming he does come back.

If Dennis and McNeil commit it means 2 are moving on. Kopp might be one of them.

Kopp was the best we had, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was solid. If he wasn't hitting shots he pretty much provided nothing.
I disagree. He’s very consistent on defense and still drew his defender(couldn’t dig off him). No other player we had did that. He did his job. His problem is he’s easy to guard. When trey subbed in for him he brought a different gear but couldn’t draw his defender. I wish we could merge them together. Does that mean Woody sticks with him? Obviously he’s trying to upgrade at the wing. Offensively it was our weakest spot. Shooting guard wasn’t much better.

If Kopp works really hard on his body and strengthens his base and improves his athleticism a little bit, that can help his shooting and his defense.
And certainly he needs to be working on shooting and his handle every day. If he totally commits to the coaching staff off-season plan for him - he can increase his value to the team.
