Harris vs. Trump 2024

Morals used to be a pillar in the party. Family unit. Fidelity. Conservatism. Temperance. Christian values.
Also used to believe in forgiveness and redemption.

It's hard to believe that the only more slimy crowd to be around than Manhattan, Trump had to go to DC.

It’s going to be close. Two hideously flawed candidates. The loons on the left will whine about “democracy” and the loons on the right will whine about “communism”.

At the end of the day, it’s about who’s policies will be better for the country in the long run.

Everything else is just bs.

Lmao. Absolutely brutal for Harris. TIED with Hispanics. Down 24 points with Independents. Trump getting by far the most black votes of any Republican ever against a supposedly black candidate. 😂😂😂

We're going to win big fellas.

That depends on how it’s asked too. Some identify as strong MAGA and others MAGA favorable or lean MAGA. However, it is a minority of the party at this point that has control of the party for the most part.

Seems to me, at this point MAGA is tied to Trump to a large degree.

Thus the movement requires a Trump victory and four years of successful policies under his leadership. Fate and factors beyond Trump's control will play a role.

Granted a heir to Trump's throne could appear with Trump's blessing. Or who knows, an even more charismatic figure could appear and MAGA becomes a dominating force for years to come.

he's proven that he'll flip on policy, basically on a whim, if it will help his own interests
It always comes down to money with Trump. Just a couple of examples.

1) May 7, 2023: Trump continues his support for the Bud Light boycott. Trump: "Money does talk. Anheuser-Busch now understands that." Feb 6, 2024: Trump: "Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that deserves a Second Chance!" Why the flip: On Feb 6, 2024 (same day as Trump's social media post) a lobbyist for Anheuser-Busch announces a $10,000 a plate fundraiser for Trump.

2) August 2020: Trump signed an Executive Order that would have effectively banned the use of TikTok in the US, had it not been struck down by a federal judge. Recently: Trump says a TikTok ban would only help the "enemy" Facebook, and that there's a lot of "good" associated with TikTok. Why the flip: Trump hosted megadonor billionaire Jeff Yass at Mar-A-Lago a few months back. Yass has a $33 billion stake in TikTok. Trump wants Yass's money, presumably for the campaign. I guess Trump was successful in this endeavor. Steve Bannon suggested Trump was paid off after his shift in stance on TikTok.

Trump's policies? POLICIES? Here's what drives his "policies:" What's in it for me? 💲

She also said she was going to ban fracking. She’s now not for it. She was for defund the police. She’s now against it.
The greatest flip of all time - - gold medal-worthy, actually.

Vance on Trump:
  • "I'm a never-Trump guy. I never liked him."
  • "My God, what an idiot."
  • Trump is "noxious," "reprehensible" and "cultural heroin."
  • Trump is a "moral disaster" and might be "America's Hitler."
Now Vance is Trump's Number 2. Classic!

Megyn Kelly made a similar turn. I did myself after not voting for him in 2016. Opinions can change.

Harris kicks of her battleground state tour on Tuesday in........... Philadelphia. I would be very surprised at this point if it is not Shapiro.

You’re not really MAGA. It’s not just policies (like isolation and protectionism), it’s an entire culture, and I consider it a very toxic and often ugly culture in my opinion. Yes, I very much dislike it.
Of course MAGA is a culture and has been a vital part of the political landscape since the civil war. There will always be toxic people. They are of any political belief. I don’t believe MAGA is the least bit isolationist, and I even cited several Trump policies that are the opposite.

I think you have applied a filter to MAGA that only exits in the minds of Democrats.

CoH, interested in your take on this link about the MAGA movement.

Not much.

It’s obviously written by a Trump critic. Trump made the point a campaign slogan. That slogan is not unlike “Yes we can” or “Build back better”. Trump critics have heaped enormous baggage onto a simple but important concept for the sole purpose to bash Trump.

Somebody here asked me the question: “When was America ever great?” The question is stupid and I didn’t answer. But I’ll answer now because it helps explain my point. Throughout our almost 250 year history millions of people did great things. (Brokaw made millions writing about some iof them.). Making America Great Again is not about a point in time, it’s about standing on the shoulders of all who came before us and did great things to Make America Great.

Trump using that as a slogan recognizes the trend to belittle greatness and instead focus on the obvious bad things which are also a part of history.

Will be interesting to see how Trump deals with deficits if elected.

His demand for allies in NATO and possibly elsewhere to spend more on defense could signal cuts in our own defense as compared to recent calls by some defense experts for hikes.

Call to the rest of the world, we are no longer the world's number one policeman against all those growing threats out there (China, Iran, Muslim Terrorists, Argentina, etc.).

Call it transactional isolationism. Make America Greater Again by calling upon other countries to step up to plate and pay their share.

CoH, thanks for the response.

Asked for your read in response to you mentioning you are big into the MAGA movement.

Hoped you might correct the article's misread on the movement itself from your point of view.

I read it and it’s dead on accurate about the culture. We all can see it. We see it here all the time.

MAGA isn’t a place, thing or final destination. MAGA is a frame of mind, and it’s on going, never ending.
MAGA is;
Whether my house small or large, I’ll work to make it respected and respectful.
I let my neighbor enjoy their life as makes them happy, and drop everything when they ask for my help. (Because if they do ask, they REALLY need it).
When needed, I can set alone, and ponder how to become a better person. Alone.
When I give my word, I’ll go to the mat to make sure I keep it.
If I give my word, it’ll be MY word, not some talking point that I’ve been leveraged to say.
Some men are not intended to be with some women, some women aren’t intended to be with some men. All kids need a Mom and a Dad.
I’ll shoot your ass with my AR. If you don’t move.

That path is a blunder. Does he not have a campaign mgr with common sense? The approach isn’t difficult. Don’t offend and hammer prices and the border. Vance looks like a moronic pick if Harris chooses Shapiro
Wrong.

It's a nice explanation but I'm not sure Trump is that deep... so I think you are giving him a little too much credit there.

Playing politics is often stoking people's anger about something, whether it's the border, abortion/women's rights, foreign affairs, economy, guns etc. Politicians stir that pot to boiling and then blame it on the other party. It is apparently a lot easier to get people to hate the other party than it is to get them to like your party or else it wouldn't be such a widely used strategy.

I would bet "Make America Great Again" was born from nothing more than getting people to think America sucked under Obama or gathering those that already thought it sucked under Obama. Because Obama was doing everything wrong and ruining the country...or that is what people were led to believe because that is how politics works. Thus, Trump. like Might Mouse, was here to save the day and make it great again.

Maybe there isn't racist intention with the "Make America Great Again" slogan but I think we can all agree that for most of our history, America wasn't equally great for everyone. And while better today, I think it could easily be argued that it's still not equally great for all. So, it is easy to see why some people might question the intent behind the "Make America Great Again" slogan (especially when most White Nationalists identify as MAGA supporters). I think the "Make America Great Again" slogan is almost as ill advised as the "Defund the Police" slogan that fortunately went away quickly.

I like it. As long as he doesn’t go too far down the path, part of exposing her fraud. The lady was raised mostly in Canada to two Berkeley professors and now she’s going to Georgia and talking like southern black women. Call that crap out.

Why’s he supposed to tiptoe around her? He didn’t with Hillary.

Bc it’s race and a button you don’t want to press. It makes him look petty and argumentative. People are tired of it. Point out the lies on the border, abortion, inflation, guns, etc. let her policy lies sink her

Trump isn’t going to have the horsepower to do any deficits. Sadly, in my humble opinion, no one will. We’ve allowed the automatic self serving AI, that we call DC to become such a large employment program, that it’s “to big to fail” without 30 yrs of total economic chaos for the world, the horse dun outt da barn. We may be well past the last furlough in the race to oblivion.
I pretty much align with the rest.
Trump and more importantly, MAGA. Will give you the shirt off their backs, if you’ve proven to have equal stakes in the game.
Have a 3’ tall yard so you can spend time to perfect your drag makeup, …. I’m sorry, the fire trucks are detained by a redneck protest down the street, accidentally, totally unexpected, quite unusual, never been seen before.

People are tired of identity politics and that’s all her campaign has been since she was anointed. Call out hypocrisy when you see it.

Yep, coming here is a learning experience in what Joe Hoopsier calls "a frame of mind".

When I watch or read media reports my frame of mind goes to where some of my MAGA Coolerites buddies might be. Then I remind myself they have probably long given up going to these sources.

When I posted the Britannica article on MAGA I doubted any of MAGA crowd would read it.

We all have our sources for information which confirm our ideological bias. Thus we remain divided with compromise or agreement being a thing of the past.

I don’t think he does. He knows how to rally his team but not add to it. He will lose the election. Mark it down
Can't believe I agree with McM. But he's right. This is a path Trump doesn't want to go down. But watch him, he's too stubborn to correct even when his staffers beg him to stop. Please, let Trump focus on race and gender. This is lining up to be a Trumanesque change in the race.

The journalist is just quoting his exact words in her question (we've all heard him say all that shit about minorities). Trump will go on and on about this moment in future interviews and rallies and call this woman nasty, which will basically prove her point. This will play well to his base, but independents and undecided voters will be completely turned off.

Like you said, he's toast.

The link is an unimpressive Trump criticism.

Two things

In one case MAGA is a Trump slogan that Trump -obsessed critics will pile on every possible Trump criticism. In that sense, any Trump slogan would have met the same fate,

In another case , MAGA is paying homage to our greatness. I don’t know why anybody would be so scornful of that, but Trump brings out not only the worst in people, but their vacuousness as well. Our greatness is our foundation.

What I am looking for, is a leader that can handle a world crisis if we get attacked by a hostile foreign government. Can she make the right decision with the nuclear code?
We already have Russian Ships in Cuba. One more question! When is the last time you have seen actual live coverage of the Ukraine war?
