Happy Juneteenth!

I did not say that and do not think that.

Maybe I can get an invite to Lucy01's and Mas-sa-suta's Juneteenth party!
Yeah, you did. You said “surely we’re all celebrating the end of slavery and the importance of diversity. “EVEN” Trumpers”.

The implication being that it would be a bonus and/or surprise if Trumpers did so as well.

Just own it. 😂

A prominent lawyer like you should know the difference between de jure and de facto.
Not the issue. This isn't 2 views of one event.

Juneteenth is when some slaves in Texas learned about the Emancipation Proclamation.

December 6, 1865 is when the United States ended slavery by amending the Constitution and fixing the holes left by the Proclamation.

Telling people these two things are equal or the same - at best - shows a lack respect for them and for history and for the people who suffered under slavery and for the people who died to end slavery.

And when their freedom was first enforced against the prevailing power structure.
Nope.

Their freedom was first enforced in August 1861 when Gen. Benjamin Butler told the Hampton Roads, Virginia Secesh “since you claim slaves are property, then you admit they are war contraband and you aren’t getting them back.”

History matters.
There is no vacuum.

You have it turned around. Being a Trumper does NOT make you a racist, but if you happen to be an anti-immigrant or anti-black racist, Trumpism tends to appeal to you. It's an association. Like a shortage of healthy teeth being associated with being a Kentucky fan

Well, it’s you “Trumpers” who constantly complain about wokeness, so I would’ve thought you all would be against celebrating Juneteenth and thought it was just liberal woke behavior. Is that implying you’re racist? Ultimately, you decided that.

It’s not a real holiday! So I didn’t participate.

Notably, per usual, the responses you have received don't speak to the content of your post (regardless of your barb). Deflection, rhetorical refusal to speak in clear terms, victimhood, "akshually" the date is wrong (don't tell those critics about December 25), etc., but nothing that confronts the core point head on in unequivocal terms. There's never substance.

You don't think that?

Then it is even more sad.

That means you wrote it, apparently without the intent or understanding that it would be a false claim of racism against some/many/all of the group you label as “Trumpers.”

That means you have been manipulated past the point where you can communicate your own thoughts/feelings, and where you make unintentional slurs against millions of people. WITHOUT KNOWING IT!

Not well done.

You will be one of the folks claiming you didn't know those were death camps smoking just outside the edge of town, and will apologize as if it matters.

“Really? No way! Sorry bruh. Those wokesters went too far, but …. at least they stopped us all from driving. Wanna a Vende from the Bucks? I’ll buy. They just went union and we’re trying to help them out.”

Your slur against Christians doesn't change or correct the historical record. To the contrary, if you demand Christians acknowledge the incorrectness of dating Christmas on 12/25, then you would also demand the acknowledgement of the incorrectness of June 19 as “the day slavery ended” - which is what our President said it was in the Juneteenth commercials during the US Open.

I’m happy to acknowledge that June 19 is a day “selected” to celebrate the Emancipation Proclamation and its announcement in Texas. I am not willing to misrepresent it - or teach it to third graders - as the day the US ended slavery.

I learned yesterday on CNN that slaves freed themselves by running into the union lines. Whites didn't have anything to do with it. Teach that and you are rewriting history.

Deep thoughts. I’m sure the sloppy takes are a big hit with the over eager and never challenging backslapper set.

Just a quick look at the thread and it appears some Whites want to tell Blacks they have celebrated the wrong day. I don't know that Blacks need to celebrate the end of slavery the White way but that is just me.

It puts all the posts about culture in context, it is about control. Straight White men have controlled pretty much the world for 500 years and we are having a tough time letting go.

I will get an early start on this next one, dang Chinese not celebrating New Year correctly on Jan 1.

Not deep. Just accurate.

On an individual basis, lack of historical knowledge is just dumb.

But this nation cannot solve problems it does not understand or acknowledge, and the current national preference to create the facade of understanding and caring, on top of 60 years of failing to address the real issues, and making it a political toy for even more unhelpful Trump/anti-Trumpery, is damaging to every person who actually suffers from any personal history of slavery.

So you can insult political opponents or fix problems, but not both.

Guess what we do?

Oh, its short of like being "bat-shit crazy"does not equate to being a liberal. Not all bat-shit crazy people are liberals, but, confessing to be a liberal indicates, you are most likely, "bat-shit crazy".
