Yes Gard is 207-112 .649 in big ten Matta was 337-123 .733 Cronin is 19-8 .704 first year in the big ten was .687 in the Pac 10 overall 134-61 .687 at UCLA.

Mic Cronin When it comes to recruiting, while he has ties to the region, he hasn't proven to be a masterful recruiter. Out of his 18 recruiting classes between Cincy and UCLA, just three of them cracked the top 25, along with eight sub-top 50 finishes including this cycle's class - which comes in at No. 83 with just one signee.
I’m not sure why but, I automatically root against Wisconsin since Gard has become the Coach. Just something about him turns me off.

So in all that time he's never been enticed to leave the state. I don't think he starts now with a rebuild job at IU.
Rebuild job? Dusty rebuilt Michigan in one season. With the right coach “rebuilding” is not a big issue.

Ranking of recruiting classes s/b irrelevant in the hiring process. The results matter. I'm confident Greg Gard's recruiting classes rarely cracked the top 25.
I think this can be skewed a bit as well. Yes he didn't recruit at a high level at Cincy but it was Cincy. In the past the factors that helped coaches recruit (facilities, tradition, fan support....etc) aren't as important as NIL. I don't know what UCLA is providing in their NIL pool but if Mick has IU NIL money to go around?
Looking at Gard's NCAA Tournament history....not that impressive. He has a 6-6 record, with half of his losses coming to lower-seeded teams.

Soooo you’re saying he’s usually IN the tournament? Pretty hard to win it sitting at home like we have become accustomed to.
I think Gard is a average coach. I don't see a great recruiter or a great coach since Bo Ryan left the program has dipped.

the difference is Gard wins with less talent. If he had Sam Dekker, he'd win more.
I don't dislike Matta- I think he is a very good coach. My only concern with Matta is his health and whether he has "lost a step".
Matta is not the same since he had to step away for his health. I'd pass on him at this point.
