Good News

During Monday’s press conference, Dolson credited Buckner with being a liaison in a search process that inevitably landed a longtime NBA coach and former Hoosier as the basketball team's next leader. Buckner, who spent years in the NBA as a player and coach, defers back.

“The man can coach,” Buckner said. "He’s not soft-spoken then. He’s very animated. He’s engaged in the game and with his players. And the official occasionally gets in the way. So he deals with that, as well.”

This hire brings happiness to Buckner, but not just because both of his golfing buddies are now close by. And it’s not just because IU’s program will be led by a protégé of Knight.

Woodson is nothing like knight at all.

The coziness between the basketball coach and the AD is disturbing. There are professional friendships and then there are personal friendships. They should not be the same people....not at this level. When the personal friendship trumps the rest....there is no accountability....which is exactly what we are witnessing in Bloomington.

"When Quinn Buckner says that it's okay to make a move on Mike Woodson, that's when AD Scott Dolson will probably make a move on Mike Woodson. Until then, he's going to get another year..." - Jeff Goodman

Maybe. But I think it’s got too bad. There is no saving Woody’s tenure. NIL is going to drop, donations will drop, program revenue will drop… it’s too much money to ignore whether Quinn likes it or not.

The basketball situation is plenty of reason to be harsh on what is going on but these personal attacks on Buckner and Woodson totally disgust me. Those two have contributed more to IU's basketball history and relevance than to any of us or most IU alums.

I know some will say lighten up but I don't think personal attacks on anything but their current decision making should be fair game. The innuendo and direct accusations are nothing but classless BS.

I know thar I will probably be attacked but I also have a lot of problems with the current state of the men's basketball program but don't like personal attacks on individuals' character.

As I have stated many times recently, I can be upset about the current situation with the men's basketball program as I was football but let's talk about that and not the personal integrity of the individuals.

Rant over I will be in my seats row 8 tonight cheering like crazy for the women to beat Iowa.

You want to be a big wheel, you better be tough.

That's exactly why I suspect it's more than a decision about the health of the program or the quality of product. It's seems more complicated than that and it's visible that there's something wrong with this team beyond so and so being hurt

Believe me I do know that having owned and or managed businesses just stating my opinion that I can separate criticism of actions and decisions without attacking individual character.

I am okay that people disagree with me just sharing an opinion which doesn't mean much.

Could be true. But I see Woodson here next year for sure.

Yea. I have no idea. I think down IUBB costs the school too much $, easily $4M per year.

We’ve got to get 5-6 guys in the portal this spring. I suspect our NIL donors aren’t chomping at the bit to support that given what Woody just produced this season - #100 and miss NIT lol. It’s a death spiral for IUBB.

It's what immature people do when they can't control their emotions. It's what our political climate has turned into. And in this thread, it's the same people taking personal potshots as after every other game that we lose embarrassingly...or just lose.

I'm over the Woodson era. The first two years were meh...anchored by a great player and some good ones. But there was writing on the wall that has just become blatantly obvious this year. So I'm all for a move (I don't think it will happen, but didn't thin Allen would be dismissed this year either), but I'm not going to take personal shots at people about it.

The personal attacks would not happen if those two had been serious about making IU elite again instead of hiring a buddy who is in over his head. Are we just supposed to ignore how bad the situation is because woodson was good player 45 years ago? I honestly done care about woodson playing here 45 years ago he was hired to do a job and he stinks at it.

Where do I say ignore that, I am upset also like I said and ready to see what they said they wanted but their actions don't prove it out. Do personal attacks really make anyone feel better, if so, feel free.

It's just who he is (bailey). It's his immaturity. It's all over this site.

I was a big mike davis buy and he had it 150% worse than woodson does on these boards. People wanted to tar and feather him. Woodson has it very mild compared to him. I am sorry Woodson had to take a little heat for being awful coach but maybe he should NOT have taken the job if he is not allowed to be attacked on a message board. He is awful at his job plain and simple.

I agree with much of that. However - arrogance, stubbornness, ego, finger pointing, and excuse making are not appealing traits of a business leader or a basketball coach. And they affect the leader’s performance. They are part of the package and are fair game for criticism. That said, I still think Woodson has high integrity. He is just not cut out for this job, in part because of these undesirable traits that affect recruiting and people management.

I agree the state of the program is not good. This team is hard to watch and gets outplayed regularly. However I don’t think this indicates there is anything nefarious at play.

My issue from day one with this hire was he was a former player so he is not allowed to be criticized or fired. You are really playing with fire hiring former players and especially ones with ZERO college experience. Now we are stuck with him for another year and maybe even longer.

Having a Board Chair, exert influence to promote an under qualified CEO, that happens to be a close a personal friend, over more talented and capable CEO’s, that subsequently runs the publicly-owned company (to which you hold a fiduciary responsibility), into the ditch is an action and decision that should be criticized and punished.

Punished man that does make me laugh. Feel free to laugh at my opinion but I live and breathe IU sports but in life it does not make me feel anything like you.

Just curious what type of punishment should be delivered? Loss of job is about the extent of what the administration can do. What is really sad from the time of John Ryan the administration has been the biggest impediment to IU sports success with no support or strong plan to keep developing it. If it was not for all the money generated from Big Ten contract and some generous gifts, we would be in big trouble in the 24/7 IU sports world.

Our real heyday was Knight, Yeagley and Counsilman.

Punishment meaning consequence. Up to and including losing your job. Did bad decisions have consequences in your business experience?

Do you really think Buckner, Dolson, Woody, assistants are all quivering and in a state of depression because a bunch of nameless faceless people are attacking them on a message board? If they’re that weak then they have no business in the high profile, high salary world they live in anyhow. These boards are full of people who care about the product. Maybe we put a little too stock in how our favorite team performs. But let’s face it. They’re entertainers and theyre paid ridiculous amounts because they’re entertainers. When entertainers are no longer entertaining it’s time to send them packing

You and I have very different outlooks on things. Goes along with my comment about your tone earlier this week.

If somebody paid me 4.5 million year they could rip me 24/7 365 days a year.
