I’ve long thought that I’d rather see Musk use his talents to protect us than pursuing mars shit few care about. However herein comes the dirty pool rub with conflicts and the rest. I’m sure Lockheed and Boeing and others would like this funding too

Just based on the recent record(s) of Boeing and Lockheed actually meeting contract parameters and delivering in a timely manner, while not incurring Billions in cost overruns, I would put my money on the Thiel/Musk team...

I agree with you, assuming it isn't funded by reallocating funds currently slated for offensive weapons systems. And that seems an unlikely prospect. The MIC doesn't often choose between options A, B, or C -- it demands A, B, and C...with a spare in tow for each.

That said, it will be interesting to see what kind of reaction this gets from the likes of China and (especially) Russia. Nothing drives Vladimir Putin more nuts than missile defense systems.

The US Navy procurement and design performance over the last two decades is no better..
