Get your popcorn ready for these fireworks: Iran launches ballistic missile, defying UN

Sorry, guess who is President now? I thought they'd be so afraid of Mr. Tough Guy they wouldn't consider it. Guess again.

I fully expected them to consider and do it in order to gauge our response under new leadership.

How we answer will then enter into their future calculus.

perhaps they used BO's $1.3 billion to fund this experiment?

Or perhaps they figured with the adults having left the White House and DT being such a paper tiger, they knew they could finally get away with it. ;)

Whatever he does I hope he put a little thought into before acting. He shouldn't ignore it or nuke Iran either. I hope he is capable of a balanced reasoned response.

Define "balanced" and "reasoned".

I'm pretty sure he's not going to nuke Tehran. But I would like to see something more than an insulting tweet.

How should we answer?

That answer is problematic due to the prior administration taking most of the teeth out of the best option: the sanctions regime.

I would probably still respond in that manner right now. I doubt it will be effective but that is what I would do.

Put the sanctions back in place. It was near treason for Obama to remove them. Trump hasn't done anything that foolish, at least not yet.

The nuclear sanctions and the ballistic missile sanctions are separate. Sanctions for the missile stuff are still in place.

Trump should have no trouble putting new sanctions in place since he's buddies with Putin.

I wonder if Putin might have had some input on this action by Iraq as they are pretty tight after Syria.
Putin could thereby test Trump without actually looking like the source of the problem. Nice test run for the septuagenarian.

Removing the sanctions when they were actually working was one of the dumbest things I've seen. We gave up our leverage for what?

Defying the GREAT agreement Obama negotiated which when some of objected to we were rediculed.

Dave, you'll always be ridiculed. That happens when you link Nazi websites to this website. Never forget! Peace!

Doesn't change the alt-fact that Iran walked all over Obama after he had them by the jugular. Even stole $1.3 billion from the U.S. to help with these "benign" missile tests.

There. I fixed it for you. ;)

They defied and embarrassed Obama many times. Hopefully Trump doesn't let them do the same.
They waited a whole week to test Trump. Can't wait to see his measured response. My guess is a twitter war. And then he'll whine about the press.

Hardly an alt-fact hoot. Iran was getting crushed.

The end of economic sanctions on Iran would mean a 14 percent drop in world oil prices and a $15 billion boost in Iranian oil revenue, according to a World Bank report.

The report said that lifting sanctions — which would give Iran access to frozen assets the Obama administration estimates at roughly $56 billion — would create a “windfall” that Iran could use to resurrect its oil fields, revive domestic industries such as auto and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and reduce widespread unemployment.

Additional help for Iran’s economy could come from foreign investment, which the World Bank predicted would climb to as much as $3.5 billion in a couple of years, double this year’s level but still below the peak in 2003.
