I am not saying he is the guy I would want to hire, but I would hope a job at IU is much better than UNLV. I get tired of hearing no one will come here, but some "retread" coach is always looking to prove himself again or actually likes coaching. Think Mack Brown at UNC. Patterson is 62. Mack Brown was 67 when he went back to UNC. I would take UNC's results since his hire. Patterson's last few years at TCU were less than mediocre, but he built that program and 2/3 + of the roster are his guys and the will probably be in the playoff next month. Someone like him won't be coaching for us for an extended period. What is our average coaching tenure anyway? If we could figure out a way to start looking for a HC I would love to put IU up against UNLV.

We need an opening first, then we need athletic department leadership capable of sound decision-making. We have neither of those.
I agree. I meant to state the need for an opening. Well, IMHO there is a need. Just not the opening. I get tired of hearing the "who would want to come here" comments. We do eliminate good candidates due to our lack of too many things, administration being one. Hopefully, President Whitten, sees the value of good football program to a university's growth and nudges Dolson along, but $25 million requires quite a bit of nudging for everyone to move along.

Remember we are a University that settled for Scott Dolson instead of Patrick Kraft who is now the AD at Penn State.
you're right. the problem goes higher than allen and even higher than the guy that gave him that ridiculous buyout. just curious, does our new president have any power over the athletic dept. or is she completely subservient to the star chamber. i mean the BOT.

great hire. why don't we have that kind of vision?

They don't have him yet, but he wants it. Again, my whole point was to show that there are good coaches pushing for lesser jobs than IU.
Is that a lesser job then being in the BIG East. He's not playing Michigan, OSU, Penn State every year. He's has a better chance at being successful.
