Can you prove he's not? I have confidence, even as inept a coach as we have, that the guys are "shooting FTs". This shooting stuff is mental at this point, imo. They at least need to be working with a shooting coach. I know Leary says he tried to reach out to the staff and was shut down, but he is doing that as business and whenever he's talked about it on Coyle's show he is confident he could fix a big chunk of their shooting flaws. I'm not saying we should have run out and hired Todd Leary (although it would make more sense than some of the guys he's hired or paid), but someone should be addressing shooting with these guys. What's Hulls role again?
was being sarcastic, he can do whatever he wants with his free time. he did ruin the rest of the season yesterday though, that was a huge loss, would have at least given us a reasonable shot to make the tournament.

Make the tournament and do what? Lose the first game as usual!

Well, I think that's exactly what the OP is suggesting. These guys have lots of extra-curricular stuff going on, and when I say "these guys" I mean college players in general. I live in NC so I can't say for IU players in IN, but many of UNC's guys are on commercials here and doing podcasts, etc...

What's your issue here? As long as he's getting to practice and doing what he needs to do academically (5th year senior? Guessing not much), I don't expect them not to have a life. If it's true that he's making 500K, through NIL then I'd assume he's going to have some commitments to keep, such as filming a video or ad. Let me know if he misses practice or some other requirement because of this, and then it matters.

It's much different than it was 20+ years ago, but look around, most players are doing endorsements/commericals, etc... if they can.
Oh... no issues KK...... was just privy to the information that it was happening. My post did not condemn Trey for what he was doing.
I understand that with NIL today.... they are all allowed to do these things.

I have no issued with it..... just reporting some info that I was given.

Good! Bring it! I would love to see losses of 25,25,15(home)& 30... I say that because I still dont have the feeling Woodson will be let go. Maybe if this stretch happens, it will happen. That way it will be the fans fault.
You know, I don't like what's going on either, but Woody was one of my IU heroes growing-up. I hate the ugliness & Woodson bashing. He is a smart guy; this year was a failed experiment. It looked good on paper, as a number of people picked us 1st. We have not jelled as a team much all season. I watch the really good teams like Purdue pass & move the ball compared to us. We are unsure & hesitant. Not playing much together really slows us down against experienced backcourts. Doesn't matter how good your front court is if your backcourt struggles.

I don’t understand. Cooper Flagg is a generational one and done. He may not be Anthony Davis level but he is a really really good one and done player. Assuming IU could out pay Duke’s NIL, and NIL rules, then how did we end up with Carlyle, Leal, Cupps, and Galloway and they ended up with Flagg. I am not ragging on these four players but they are paid well and they are not in the same ballpark as Flagg even as upperclassmen.

NIL goes a long way but Duke is still Duke

I don’t believe IU’s NIL has as much impact as many people think that it does have or will have. If a top program targets a particular player they can mobilize impressive NIL deals. Flagg is upward of $2 million I believe.

I am not sure with McNeeley. Either UConn approximately matched IU’s NIL deal or no amount of money could convince him to play for Woodson rather than Hurley. Either way IU’s NIL couldn’t seal the deal.

Why play at Duke?

Why play at Indiana?

Maybe the problem isn’t the individual talent of the players we are bringing in, but why each individual player is coming here, and what they want out of coming to IU.

I don’t think everyone can mobilize NIL like the big basketball schools.

Player payroll matters, and each extra $500K-$1M could be a significant contributor. But it is true NIL only gets a coach in the door for a recruitment, they still have to close vs a few other schools. And of course they need to pick the right players. We waste our NIL, but you still want your program to have it.

McNeely decommitted and reopened his recruitment. He was done with IU/Woody, it wasn’t about NIL. He looked a bunch of schools and ended up with UConn.

I agree that you need to have it but my point is that it puts us (at best) effectively even with other programs and in these recent cases it did not even out recruitment since we lost. To have success against other top programs requires a lot more than NIL and it is not a crutch that raises up material weakness in other areas.

So..Dolson needs to pick the very best he can and the new coach needs steel in his spine because Hoosiers (fans and donors) grew up with basketball and they have strong opinions. :).

A guy like Flagg would never choose to play for Bigfoot, regardless of the NIL offer.

Yes, I have served mostly country churches which have a lot of salt of the Earth types. A couple of the teens said I was a cool preacher today because I was quoting Gangsta Paradise. Coolio in the song was making the point that the Bible makes in Deuteronomy 6 and James 3.about sin leading to a possible early death.years ago we had a lady who owned a bar in Illinois coming to the church. I called the bar to talk to her and her employees were saying, "there is a preacher on the phone". I chuckled at their reaction.
Pastor: you need to give Them a fire and brimstone sermon about Hell and quote from the Eagle's Song Hotel California. "You can check in anytime You like, but You can never leave."
